very slow internet [Archive]

can somebody help me im getting serously slow internet im on the 4Meg internet and im lucky if im getting 1Meg. Im not downloading or uploading anything, would be really grateful of any infomation or help on sorting this matter

Hi - ive been having exactly the same problems today. Worked fine first thing, then this afternoon wouldnt work and now works a little bit. Earlier i went to 3 broadband speed test sites and kept getting full download speed (just under 2 meg which i have) but no upload. All 3 sites timed out on upload and said connection lost.

i tried the link posted above but it asked me for username and password. What is this? My ntl account name and password?

ntl account name is root and password is root

thank you to the people who posted it must have been Virgin media (telewest) playing up, connection is fine now. thanks again for your time
