After seeing a similar topic on other websites I thought we should have a go.
My favourite ad was the old "Hovis" bread ad, where the young boy is free wheeling down the cobbled street accompanied by that classic tune. Puts me in mind of Sunday nights as a kid, "by gum those were happy days":D
And my worst advert without a shadow of a doubt, is the one for "safestyle" double glazing, the one where the balding guy keeps shouting "buy one and get one free, I said BUY ONE AND GET ONE FREE":td:

Fave is that milk ad thats always on. With the cow and pirate dancing lol. I dunno why but I laugh everytime I hear the pirate scream. and the little guy at the end makes me laugh to "Lovely".
Worse has gotta be the bloody comparision website ad's All of them. And car insurance Ad's omg I h8 them all I beleive they were created in hell to torture us all.

The one I always remember is on old Carlsberg with an Aboriginal Australian throwing a boomerang. It ran over the whole evening, comes on throws boomerang, nothing. Eventually he downs said lager and hundereds of boomerangs return.
Most ad's though are terrible especially when they are blindingly obvious. The best ones are remembered for the ad not the product but you do remember the latter.

Actually with you mentioning the Gaviscon ads Cobbydaler its just reminded me of that awful ad voiced by Griff Rhys Jones for "Actimel" the friendly bacteria, it generally comes on when your eating your tea, lovely:td:

As for the worst ads, has to be the life insurance ads that give you a free gift if you sign up, like a pen, radio alarm clock or something else that'll break soon as you touch it. RIP OFF!
Any ad eventually becomes the worst if you see it enough times.
I still quite like the John West Bear ads possibly because they don't get shown very often.

I remember a Wheetabix ad from a while ago. the Black Beauty music was playing, and there was a black horse running over fields and through a wood.
When it got back to the stables the camera panned away for a split second then returned to one person lifting a pantomime horse's head off and saying something like 'That's was a good run. Same time tomorrow?'
A cracking ad...
Another worst: The Nurofen advert where the stupid bird is a race engineer with a headache and her car is loosing. She takes a Nurofen straight away notices a big red turbo button, presses it and her car surges forward and wins.
10 year olds can do better. Is this really what we have come to?
I usually hate the Specsavers ads.However I saw the Thunderbirds one this evening and despite myself I had to laugh.:)

Does any one remember the KitKat advert where the football manager is giving his teamtalk but has loads of translatators trying to talk over him translating to all the different languages to all the different players. I think it was Kitkat anyway. Noone else seems to remember it and i'm wondering if I dreamt it now. :erm:

Pretty much every advert since has been pants. No point in posting the worst ones, just stick the telly on at any point, they are pure torture these days. CAN'T FIND CHEAP CAR INSURANCE? To be honest I either turn over or Mute/Turn the sound off, stopped watching them a long time ago, so maybe I have missed a gem, I doubt it.

The ad that makes me reach for the remote is the one for "double glazing", I think its safestyle windows where this really loud bloke runs around shouting, "buy one and get the other absolutely free, I say buy one get the other one free". To me its the most irritating ad on the telly.
On the other hand one of my all time favourites are the old Tango ads, where the big, bald orange guy appears from nowhere, grabs the guy and plants a big smacker of a kiss on him, great stuff, you know when you've been Tango'd.:)

What makes me laugh Punky is that whenever you see an ad for an airline, you invariably see happy people drinking champagne, relaxing on flat-bed seats and dressed immaculately. Its a pity they don't move the camera further down the plane, out of first and business class, and into economy, there they could film what its like for the majority of people;). Crammed in to a small seat, babies crying, plastic meals and the kids constantly saying, "are we nearly there yet dad", that's the vision of flying I'm more familiar with.:D

The 'Paula the cow' advert for Dr Oetker's new yoghurt range. It's one of the euro adverts, dubbed into the language of the country it's transmitted in.

I've been trying to find the ad for Werthers Originals, the one with the father and son in the car. The kid reminds me of a young Peter Kay.
The pair are shown chatting while driving to a school sports day. The son, Tom, tells his dad about the gifts, including a laptop, iPod and an Xbox, his friend Jake has been given by his father.
Tom's dad says he looks forward to meeting Jake's father at the school sports day. However, it turns out Jake's dad will not be there because he is "more of a virtual dad".
Tom then teasingly says: "Not like you, can't get rid of you." The advert ends with them sharing the special moment with, of course, a Werther's Original.

Oh yes coggy, tell me about it...in our house its become a mad rush for the remote when the little guy with glasses comes on and begins singing, if thats the right word,:) about his talking fish.
Personally I believe people reach this level of loathing for a particular ad purely from the end...les..s times they screen it, the saying in our house is, "I wouldn't use Abbey if they paid me".:D

The true quantative measurement of how good an advert is, is how many complaints it has.
Adverts that are seriously peeing me off atm are the ones that have been dubbed (badly) over from the US. Seems to be loads.

[OK, so this is a radio ad, not a TV ad...]
Little bump due to a DAB advert on "Absolute Radio" (prev. Virgin) irritating me.
It goes on about how IIRC "e.g. you wouldn't still dial the operator to make a phone call" & makes other comparisons to technological progression & the 21st Century, says analogue radio is outdated & hard to tune, & tries to sell the virtues of DAB... "more stations", "easy tuning", and... "digital quality sound".
Erm..."digital quality sound"? What, using a standard designed in the 80s, which uses the rather outdated MP2 audio codec?
Give me FM!
Oh, & the other adverts are all bloody awful too...

It's horrendous. I'm sure they played it every single ad break today on Absolute Radio, and then tonight I heard it again, this time on TV during an ad break for The Gadget Show.
It's really, really, the most annoying advert I've heard. It sounds like the sort of crap that chav teens have blaring out of their mobile phone speakers while on the bus. Ugh.

Anyway I saw it many. many, many years ago (I think very early '80's) and it's the Nescafe advert of the woman in tears sat in the car (I think a VW Type1) whilst it pours down with rain and she finds a jar of nescafe and her 12v kettle in the glovebox, the sun and her spirit then brightens to the sounds of Jonny Nash's "I can see clearly now the rain has gone." Not sure but I think it wsa set on top of a cliff..

Oh without a doubt - British Gas. Talk about being bombarded, it's bad enough on the telly, but even worse on commercial radio - extremely irritating. In fact every time it comes on I deliberately switch stations, that's how much I hate it! :mad: and (to top it off even more) ever since I saw the complaint on BBC Watchdog where their workers were deliberately breaking into people's homes to fit payment meters (even when victims were not British Gas customers) I detest them even more - **** bags! :mad: :mad:

OK I'm guessing 'Beat' is what Yorkshire folk say instead of 'beaten'? Fine, if the ads were staying within Yorkshire. As it's going to the rest of the UK they'd be better off using words and expressions the rest of us know.
That ad irritates me, as it implies that Yorkshiremen are inherently more trustworthy than anyone else. I've met a few, and you get the same mix of trustworthy and untrustworthy as anywhere else.

I'm not sure if i should hate the latest Very.co.uk advert (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LE5QY-0ofms) or love it. They're using one of my favourite songs (and a pretty obscure song too); "Bert's Apple Crumble" by the 60's mod band The Quik (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pc06Krr6P98s). I'm not really liking the song being used in such a way but it's a truly a piece of instrumental genius, so more opportunity to hear it is great.
Can't stand that First Direct Ad. Starts off in a classroom and kids are being noisy and that girl (Michelle Green) making that awful noise and then the teacher walks in and says "Michelle Green, you and I are going be having a long conversation."
Can't abide it at all, to the point that I just switch channels quickly when it comes on.

After seeing a similar topic on other websites I thought we should have a go.
My favourite ad was the old "Hovis" bread ad, where the young boy is free wheeling down the cobbled street accompanied by that classic tune. Puts me in mind of Sunday nights as a kid, "by gum those were happy days":D
And my worst advert without a shadow of a doubt, is the one for "safestyle" double glazing, the one where the balding guy keeps shouting "buy one and get one free, I said BUY ONE AND GET ONE FREE":td:
