How can i find out the max BB speed i can recieve in my area?

Go to this (http://allyours.virginmedia.com/) and enter your post code. It should tell you what services are available. If cable services are available in your area then I don't think speed/services will be an issue. If it's a cabled area then you will be able to get "up to" 20Mb.
