Bit of a Rant thread methinks??

Well...what have you done to try and find the problem?

You do share your 20mb or whatever-speed you get with others in your area...if you aren't getting the speed you want, downgrade to a lower tier and save yourself some money!

In the contract it does say "up-to". Trust me, their covered againts you complaing that your not getting 20MB. It's the reason why im on 2mb.

Your best off getting 8mb/10mb, as it's a realistic speed to reach.

darthlinux is right.

Have you tryed using TCPOptimizer?

Theres a link somewhere on my thread about Speeding up windows XP:

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/19/33629783-ultimate-guide-speeding-up-your-windows.html

Tells you how to use it too. Look at number 6 in the list.

Done all of the above, even got slower package just made it even slower as you would expect. i think they do it when i download a large file.. i thought this only applied after 4 mmm me thinks not

crazymaniac
19-03-2008, 16:45
Yes throttling does apply between 4-9 but only really affects you if you hit the daily download limit. The higher speed (package) your on, the more download limit you have.

e.g. im on 2mb speed, and there is a 350MB limit.

the above link is bad:(

Yeah, the link worked when I first made the thread but for some reason broke.

Read on, someone re-posted a new link for it.

I'm having the same problem mate :( paying 37 quid for XL BB and getting around half of it most times, what a joke. I think my only option is to downgrade to 10mb line as crazymaniac said..

Have a look at my thread (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12/33629884-20mb-problem-please-help.html) if you like, you'll prolly find it all too familiar :(

If/when they upgrade all the lines form coax to fibre to each house, you will very rarely see 20MB.

They ARE useless.

Same for me mate, absolute crap service.

Today I am trying to list an item on ebay, Took me ages to step through the pages. Youtube videos stick 25% in.

Websites freeze and do nothing. But when stopped/refreshed quickly it sometimes goes through.

I'm on the verge of cancelling my contract. I have tried troubleshooting the problems, doesn't seem to be anything wrong this end, I just can't cope with it anymore, too bitchy for me now. :o:

BTW Im on 20mb XL, I would be happy with Sky 16MB, just over 1km from exchange, done the sam test and can get upto 8.8Mb/s.

Speed isn't important to me. Quality Is.

Not strictly true. They do have various tarrifs for differing packages. It is not unreasonable to expect at least a level of service above the package below yours, otherwise there seems little point having the various packages.

Ofcourse, someone must go to court to make their case, and as yet I don't believe this has happened. We shall have to see what happens with the ASA/Ofcom review.

It's the reason why im on 2mb.

Quite, as I'm sure many will after their upgrade, seems pointless having 10meg when they can't deliver 4.

I have 4Mb package, but rarely get much better than dial-up service... I called VM to complain a few weeks ago, was offered a discount on my bills for 6 months. I asked how they intended to upgrade to 10 Mb service when they couldnt give 1/100th of that at present? the reply was that that was the problem.. thier servers seemed to have a few bugs at the moment which the engineers were trying to fix... also they said they had a bad signal/noise prob affecting (former) Avon area.

The annoying thing is from July 2001 up until last Christmas it was rock solid, I never had slow downs at all, not even on one single day. If it went down, it went down, none of this intermittent crap. However, since Christmas I've been plagued with slow and intermittent service pretty much every week and nothing has changed in my set up my end.

I know I keep asking this, but what modem? If it's a 120, get it changed!

No problem. BW = Band Width. Yes it was a joke although not private.

Just a bit of banter regarding my BB speeds increasing and at the same time as Darth was experiencing an equivalent slowdown.

It's a Samsung Set Top Box SMT-2100C. It's not the modem, as it works fine when it works
