Hi
i have been downloading on 10 meg for ages and know roughly what speeds i should get but now if im right im on 20 meg , as i heard all 10 meg users are now on 20 meg is this right ??, if so i havent seen any change in my download speeds, roughly what upload speeds should i get i know on 10 meg i was getting 90 kbs and are still getting that now is there a way to tell what speed im on ? like going into the cable modem information, is so can anyone tell me what to look for and where to go in this to look?? to check what speed im on.

many thanx

Click on the link below, then on Login & enter root for both username & password

http://192.168.100.1

Then choose Operation Configuration.

If you're on 20 meg you should see:

Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 20480000

On that same screen do you see:

Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 768000

How are you testing your upload speed?

Whenever I click on this link I never get asked for password or user name and get taken to a configuration page anybody got any ideas.I'm ex Telewest/Blueyonder.

Some modems supplied by VM, like the Motorola I use don't require a login.

If you're ex Telewest on a Surfboard then sorry, I don't know...

Ok thanks for the info guess it is some thing to do with surfboard modem and being ex Telewest.
Maybe someone who is ex Telewest could try and see if they get the same results.

The Surfboard modems, like my SB5100, don't require a login. Just ignore that part of Cobbydaler's instructions.

The data rates can be found under the logs tab, look for a line like this: "SW Download INIT - Via Config file cm-20480-768" - that means 20480 down and 768 up - the rates you'd expect for 20MB.

Because you'll get crappy download speeds, capped to hell and back and the worst internet ever? Well if you believe all you read on here :p:
