Gaming doesn't use that much bandwith afaik. On 4 meg you are traffic shaped if you go over 800MB between 4pm and 9pm

No but downloading the demos of XBL can use a fair bit ;)

Judging by the time you mention, is this not the same as mine, and it's about 45 mins after the kids get home from school and start battering the net?

If this is regular at this time, does it not indicate a utilisation issue?

That would depend on the game and if your a Client or the Server ;)

Most of the games I play only use about 15-25KB/s (FPS games like Unreal and quake series :sniper:). It depends on server settings mainly because they cap it to allow more players on.

I would think the xbox would use similar figures.

darkm,

my son has been having the same problem playing COD4. I called MS and they had no problems on their side, so i presume it is VM capping. My connection is 20Mb (though never get that) and his game continuously shows error message "disconnected from server" or "connection interruption".

Sounds like a VM provblem, I have never dropped on a game of COD.

southwell,

i know it is strange, my son has said it has never happened before, but if you call VM it is not a problem with their system! How can you prove them wrong?

My mate had a similar problem, it turned out to be their modem, i would start by asking for a replacement from VM.

Southwell, i asked VM about a new modem ages ago when i started having problems with my net connection going really slow, and according to their diagnostic tests the modem is fine and i dont need a new one!

I'd argue the toss with them personally. They said my mates one was fine when i knew it wasn't, after a bit of 'conversation' they gave in and gave him one. He now gets 19mb, although your problem may not be the modem....

CAn you downlaod 2 files from microsoft, big one, and ensure that STAYS connected ie drops after 2 mins, then the downlaod too should. if doesn't probally router if using one needs updated firmware **ONLY UPDATE ON WIRE CONNECTION*****
