Hello Everybody,
I have been with NTL and now VM since 2000, at the beginning the monthly fee was reasonable but with the passing of time I am now paying £ 49.50 a month as various channels were added to my original package and fees raised without anybody asking my consent. I feel that this is now too much for me, but if I could add 8Mbs unlimited broadband without telephone to my package at a fair price or a special price for the bundled items that would help. This is my deal at the moment:
TV size XL £ 31.50
Movies4
Movies5 £ 18.00 .................total £ 49.50.
What can I do to achieve a cheaper package with :
XL , Movies & Broadband. I hope some kind VM employee or expert can help

Just give retentions a call and explain what you want, you never know. ;)

hi there!

as suggested i would definitely call retentions!

the standard TV + BBI saving is £9 per month... but the package cost for 4mb BB is £25! so you end up paying more!

it may actually help to just have a phoneline installed, as some discounts need this as a prerequisite. like you caould get a triple save discount for having all 3 services which is £10.50 per month.

but if you call retentions i'm sure they have some juicy discounts for long standing customers such as yourself;) just ask nicely!!!

Although I am sure VM would like you to take the phone to get the web site offered TV prices, in practice it seems that taking any other of the VM services (excluding VM Mobile) instead of the phone will get the advertised TV price.

It ought to be a no brainer to get TV XL for 20.50, Movies for 18.00 and BB L for 11.50 (for the first year, going up to 25.00, so after a year that's 15.00 more than you are currently spending), and most likely an installation fee of 25.00 for the BB.

I know everyone is different, but I had a hard time justifying 11.50 (138.00 a year) for the TV L package, I can't imagine spending 20.50 + 18.00 (462.00 a year) and then the cost of the TV License fee.

I would say have the phone line installed get for 3for£30 with xl tv for a year so with the movie sit would be £48.00 but dont forget u got a phone in that price

The 3for30 only has 2Mb broadband, and a phone that the OP does not want. What happens to TV XL after the 12 months, does the cost go up, or does the TV package drop to a lower tier?

There are so many options they op can take why always say just speak to retentions the 3for£30 is a good deal it goes up by £9 after a year but there are things called standard prices and they should be paid not discount because a customer wants one

Thank you for your suggestion,
is VM actually actually charging £ 20.50 for TV XL NOW to new members or is this amount for the 3x package? Is my amount of £ 31.50 correct?
I should think you are right about the difference between TV L and TV XL
the problem was that ntl added channels saying that this was what everybody was now getting and never offered new packages so I am now paying £ 31.50, I never queried them so here I am stuck with this.
Also I do not really know what the real difference between the 2 packages as they are adding new channels??
So, you see, confusion reigns here
Any more ideas welcome, regards, jwoods

Starting from http://www.virginmedia.com/ click on the Products link with a red background, VM's web site is badly designed IMHO and it isn't obvious that this is a link, which should take you to http://allyours.virginmedia.com/. You can then look up cost of broadband to new customers, what channels are included in the various TV packages, etc.

Thanks flowrebmit,
I'll have a look again at VM site.
I only wish life was easier, all this tech sometimes complicates things, but then
I am from the b/w tv generation.
Thanks again, jw
