Hello i live in stoke on trent. Noticed that during the evening my speed is sooo slow and takes ages to load pages.
Im on the 4mb (L) package and pay £25 per month. I have used the virginmedia website to see what upgrades are available. Had to log in with virgin media user and password. After the checking it tells me that i am on the (s) package of 2mb and offered me upgrades to 4mb or xl package :o:
Surely this cannot be right - if so i have been paying for 4mb for a looong time and feel cheated by it knowing I have only received the 2mb service.
My bills itemised to show that I am on 4mb and pay for this
Anyone else had these problems

you are looking for the downstream data in the operation config bit..just login and check the data..username and password is ' root'...4mb is 4096000 . well thats what mine is anyway

You may be downloading too much and therefore be a victim of traffic shaping!
thanks got it - the same as you.

Nope, im on the 4mb (L) according to the Virgin upgrade page.
What speeds are you getting on downloads?
Go and download 3 big files (100MB+) at the same time, and add up the values for speed (IE uses kilobytes, google calculator will help you convert it - 123kB in kbps)
If it is not right, you might need to give a techie a call. It seems the virginmedia.support.broadband newsgroup is very good.

Why is it that all my browsers except internet explorer through CrossOver or wget on the commandline claim the modem config is a corrupt gif? Even the text based links has the same issue of thinking the config is a gif.
haha! Not had that one before. Might want to file a bug with your distro or whatever
Mac OS X has an issue? Windows Firefox has the same problem.
I have a WebStar EPC2100 modem.
Oh, its a Mac, i thought it was linux :P
That is strange, cant help you there, its a TW modem and I only know about NTLs :P
It appears that the modem is sending the wrong content type in the HTTP header.

I'm also in stoke-on-trent and during the peak hours 4-12pm my 20Mb service shrivels up to around 2-4Mb :( out of these hours i get full speed. either the area is massively over subscribed or the traffic shaping is just horribly wrong. I dont use the internet till i get home after work (so i cant be downloading over the limit) but still only get around 2Mb :( Anyone else in Stoke have the same issue???
