I have been told by VM support that I should have a 20MB Connection, but I average a 1 - 2MB connection, I have got one V+ box downstairs and 2 normal Box's Upstairs and in my office I have the Modem with a netgear router connected that has 2 printers connected and my main PC my children’s laptop connects wireless and so do both of my laptops. all was ok until about 4 weeks ago when I noticed that some of the web pages that I was loading were taking a long time, after checking I found that I was getting a 1- 2 MB connection, I know it was not traffic shaping as we had been away all weekend (nothing downloading either) and no one had been on the internet.

I did the following the next day just to make sure not a fault at exchange.

1. Reset modem and router (Fault still there)
2. ran full spyware and virus scan on PC's (all clean & fault still there)
2. Connected my pc to modem directly (yes fault still there)

Then I phoned Tech Support

they check all setting's on modem and say everything is OK and no faults in area, it must be a fault with my pc, I then explain how many pc's I have and that no matter what pc is connected all get the same result (running XP on all apart from 1 of my laptops for development only). Tech guy says try reformatting pc and testing with VM antivirus and firewall (use MacAfee antivirus and firewall software) do this on old pc yes I get the same fault all of this has taken 3 week's to do due to work commitments then get told there is a fault in my area I live in Doncaster DN2, they say should be fixed in 5 days so OK 5 days and I will have full internet speed back I will wait.

after 6 days speed still 1-2Mb phoned tech support and get told that there is no fault in my area and there has not been and get told again after they do all the checks that it is my computer that is at fault.

Can anybody help / point in right direction on what to do other wise I will have no option but to get BT phone and ADSL and then I will go the whole hog and get SKY:shocked:

I will ask the usual question:

1. How are you measuring your 'speed'?

I have been using www.speedtest.net and the cable speed test on this forum also downloads from Microsoft msdn website.

Could get hold of a ubuntu live CD, boot from it and try the connection, it is still slow then tell them where to go with the format. Ring up and tell them you will cancel if they do not provide the service you pay for, you may be amazed how quickly they listen to the real problem after that.

I'm on the top tier too, but am only getting a max of 2.5MegaBits during the day OR night..

I am going over to Business BB as soon as I can though, flip this!

...and how naive and unknowledgeable you are. The OP could have done lots of things to HIS environment in those 4 weeks as well!
...and your language and attitude are absolutely unecessary!

The speed it downloads over the vm INTERNAL network is of no consequence whatsoever. I can download from my 1 TB NAS device at 1 gig/sec but so what? Downloading from a VM server tells you nothing at all.

The only real test is to d/l from an external network....there is NEVER any need to prat about with ethernet settings in the real world. The defaults are the best balance for the mix of networks you come across in real life.

If you can get 20meg from a VM server you are not likely to get it anywhere else unless you use 30 connections and it's 02.00am.
