I've been a 20mb user for a while (since they introduced it really), mainly to avoid (or try to) the limits imposed by traffic shaping. I've got the latest modem from VM, I'm using a very good router (D-Link DIR-655 - although that's unplugged at the moment), and I can't get no higher than 60kb/sec off of gamefiles.virginmedia.com (blueyonder). Also places like speedtest.net or the speed test over at giganews have never yielded results over 1mb, and at the moment are topping out at 900kb/sec.

Do they do traffic shaping at this time of the day, or is my ubr just terribly over subscribed? I've given up speaking to tech support coz let's be honest they aren't much help at all.

I'm afraid poor speeds at the weekend seem to be a frequent occurance these days. I'm on the 4mb service in the South Manchester area and I've not seen speeds over 600kbps on a Sunday for quite some time. Too often it's hovered around the 300kbps. This isn't always a Sunday/Weekend either.

I've now cancelled my contract and going elsewhere.
