I take it you connecting modem via coax in each room ????

Potentially, yes.

If you are not using the VM installed cable, there can be interference, to you, and possibly your neighbours. Moreover, if you change the cable length you alter the resistivity of the wire, albeit very slightly and that can alter the signal strength. If you use DIY or not VM cable to extend you lead when you move between rooms, if that is inferior to the VM cable you risk compounding any of the above.

Strictly speaking the VM installed cable up to the point of connection to your modem should not be altered by the customer unless with a VM supplied cable.
