For the last two weeks my conection has been ok ( reading area, this is after having months of slow speeds, dropping connection etc ) now for the last 3 days im getting dropped connections, slow loading of websites, slow speeds..........back to square one.

This has got beyond a joke now, has anyone managed to get out of the 12 month contract? Im sick and tired of Virgin, the service is a complete and utter joke.

They need to sort something out.

Your not the only one. I'm in the reading area too, and do get pings better than 200ms. Thats ****ing ridiculous. I really want to leave them but cannot at the moment.

Glad im not alone then, my friends are having the same problem, they had an egineer out only to say " no faults found".....we are all getting sick of this.

IMO this service gets worse and worse.

I have to say, our own 20Mb service has not been up to scratch this last week or so either...
3 months 2 weeks late our 20Mb was to start with and after over(only) a month of relatively good speeds we have now been back to that 4-12Mb lark this last few days.

Sometimes the actual browsing speed have been abysmal.....even when using opendns, which is rare as i usually have good browsing speeds regardless of what i`m getting speed wise.....4-10-20Mb???.

Test 1: 1024K took 6653 ms = 153.9 KB/sec, approx 1268 Kbps, 1.24 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 6264 ms = 163.5 KB/sec, approx 1347 Kbps, 1.32 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 5859 ms = 174.8 KB/sec, approx 1440 Kbps, 1.41 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 15261 ms = 134.2 KB/sec, approx 1106 Kbps, 1.08 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 1290 Kbps, 1.26 Mbps

And just on the strength of that dodgy speedtest i know my actual dodgy download speeds will be about 3-4Mb:rolleyes:

I had 2 solid weeks of acceptable speeds and thought things had been sorted at last then suddenly it's hit and miss again, if it was a contention problem surely I wouldn't get good speeds for a few days in a row then suddenly drop down struggling to get 1 Meg for a complete day before it recovers again, this has to be a network problem.

I've been with VM /NTL for about 6 years now with very few problems. Speed OK but not with the forum speed test. It's been said before, download a large file from a source capable of delivering your max speed. I previously worked in a BT call center BB tech help desk the grass is not always greener on their side of the fence either.

I think there's balance either side of this speed issue, you need to complain to Virgin though, and you need to do it well.

I say it to everyone. Dont blame your ISP, it may be your equipment like your pc, modem or router

But who to ?

You get through to a call centre who take you through the same script reading session to end up with 'my my sir that is slow, I will get an engineer to you'. Engineer turns up and disappears 5 seconds later saying he cant do anything.

Think its time to start spending money on infrastructure VM as this has really been bad since 20Mb  came into being
