Morning all.

I having difficulty connecting my work laptop to a Motorolla SurfBoard Cable Modem.

The laptop is connected from the Ethernet port on the CM direct to the NIC card on the laptop.

When I run IP Config I get a 169.IP - I have seen the sticky above, yet to try it to be honest.

When I run Internet Explorer I get the standard "this page cannot be displayed", I guess this could be a proxy issue? As the laptop is set to go through the company proxy, I could get an entry added into this proxy for the 169.IP to allow entry to the web.

Any ideas?

Should I be getting a 169.IP?

Cheers.

have you rebooted the cable modem?

have you done an ipconfig /renew ?

a 169 address means it's not getting an ip address from the cable modem

Ok, the IP is now 192.xxx.xxx.xxx with the coax still disconnected.

Now to shut all back down, reconnect coax & restart everything...

Ok..

IP Address is now: 77.**.**.***
Gateway is now: 77.**.**.*

Is this IP correct?

Still can't connect to internet, poss proxy issue?

Cheers.

Not sure why you disconnected the coax - you should have no need to do that.

Switch everything off, wire everything up, switch on the CM, let the lights settle down, then switch on the laptop.

If it has worked correctly, you should be online with the laptop without having to do anything else at all.

if its a works laptop its possibly a proxy problem as you could be set up to use your works intranet/network

The IP falls within the VM IP range and therefore its correct .

Try to reboot the computer in Safe Mode With Networking .. IT could be a firewall issue !!
