Hello all, I hope you can help me with my problem.

My download speeds and web browsing performance drastically degrade depending on the time of day.

I get full speed (23,000 Kb/s) between 00:30 and 07:00 and web pages load instantly
I get slow speed in the evenings from about 19:00 to 22:00 (anywhere between 2mb/s to 8mb/s) and web pages, especially non-uk, can take 30-40 seconds to load.
At other times it's around 15mb/s.
Upload speed is consistently 730 kb/s or thereabouts.
Ping tests during the slow times are about 20ms and during the ok times, 8ms

VM CS confirm that I haven't been traffic managed.
The speeds are taken from downoading 2 files from gamefiles.blueyonder.co.uk. using firefox or IE7 and speeds are similar on speedtest.net
I connect directly to the cable modem.
I have tried the same with a 2nd PC and acheived similar reults.

At peak times, although I'm getting 4 mb/s, web pages load quicker if I connect using my HPSDA Phone (1.3mb/s) instead.

I have been on the phone to VM CS on several occassions and they have run through multiple tests on my modem/pc and their network and, on all but 1 occasion, have said that they can't find anything wrong with their network or my modem. Last week they said there was a "Load" fault (I can't remember the exact term they used) and when I phoned them yesterday they said it had been fixed and now there are no issues on their network, despite no change in my connection perfomance. I thought it must be a capacity issue but they said that the nework was only 60% full, so couldn't be the issue.
Almost every call ends with "Sorry sir, we have checked everything we can, the problem must be your PC". Every time I tell them that I have tried a 2nd PC and the problem goes away off-peak so how can it be my PC?

I also had an engineer visit last week and his checks on the frequency and power levels didn't show anything wrong.

This has been a problem for a few months now, although my 1st call to CS was a month ago, and nothings improved.

I can live with 4mb/s but browsing with non-uk web pages that take 30 seconds to load, (uk based take around 1-3 seconds ), is unbearable. What else can I do?

Thanks for any help you can provide?

Edit: Forgot to say that my modem was swapped with a new one a couple of weeks ago, but it didn't help.

The browsing could be improved at peak times with a bit of connection tweaking.

I use the Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/) broweser with the Fasterfox (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1269) plugin. The plugin allows you to create multiple connections to the webserver, which can be usefull in the evenings when you have page loading problems.

I wouldn't recommend the ultra fast settings though, as those kinds of connection can breach local server rules.

Welcome to the forum, I hope this answer will be of some help.

I have the exact same experience. I'm lucky to get 4mbps at any time of day and frequently sub 1mb at peak times. (4pm to midnight). (This is on a 20mb connection).

If I was paying full price for this nonsense I'd cancel for sure.

I am tired of moaning on this board and not prepared to pay for a rather expensive call as my pc is far from the modem and I am unable to connect direct which they at tech services would want. It was thought after reading posts that mt router might be at fault as it is a netgear wpn824v2 but if you look at the below tests carried out this month then although I accept my router might not be able to handle 20 meg but I know before the upgrade I was getting good stable speeds but since then my speeds have been cr-p.

Here is a month worth of test and the best was on Sept 5th with a speed of 10586 kbps
