Hello all, I upgraded to 20MB last night and here is the speed i've been getting of late:

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2007/09/9.png (http://www.speedtest.net)

As you can see, it's not that great, certainly not the speed I was looking for anyway.

Here is a screenshot of the Cable Modem interface and as you can see, there shouldn't be anything wrong with the speed. I've not yet tried phoning virgin media and i'll go around in circles with the technical support people and it'll never get fixed.

Anyway, I hope some of you guys can help me out here, i'm really baffled by it! If you need any screenshots of anything else just ask. I really want to get this fixed or at least get an idea of what the problem is.

Have you got a router or other networking?

Also, try this: http://www.virginmedia.com/help/20mb-broadband-optimisation.php

Ok, i've got the old NTL 200 DSL Modem and a D-Link DGL-4300 Gamerlounge.

The network/internet was completely idle the when I preformed the speed test.

Also the help page on NTL wont do anything for me because 1) I use a router so that will handle that stuff, and 2) I use a a Mac so those applications wont work on here anyway.

Please no comments like "You dont get 20MB because you have a Mac" I've got 100MB broadband at college and it works fine there

Hve you tried a speedtest without the router? My Belkin 54g "loses" 9mb of my connection but when directly connected i get 19.8mb.

Yes i've tried with and without the router, both give me bad speed. Sometimes even the upload speed drops below 2KB/s making anything web based impossible for me

If in doubt, blame the Mac !!

;)

Seriously though, its worhtwhile giving tech support a call, there mey be known speed issues in the rgion or maybe a fault with your modem? Worthwhile getting it checked out either way.

Ok, i'll give them a ring tomorrow, for now though can anyone think of anything else that could be causing this?

I live in the rg12 area and have had bad speeds for ages.

I get get 2mb downloading from newsgroups during the day, infact as we speak i am downloading at poor speeds.

It is a disgrace

The funny thing is i am tempted to upgrade to teh 20mg service for the extra £1.50 that is being reported.

Not sure it will help though
