Hi I am on the 4meg teir on Virgin Media cable.
I had PCguard on my PC and I have to rebuild my hard disk which meant installing Windows XP again.
I am having problems getting PCGuard installed, I download the PCadviser but when I run it it says unable to uninstall previous version and will not go any further.

Any suggestions please apart from use another package.

Sounds like you have some rouge files left from the old version, I would try and remove them with this uninstaller (http://www.revouninstaller.com/) and then do a clean up including issues with ccleaner. (http://www.ccleaner.com/)

And here is a (http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm)nice little registry cleaner if you feel like doing a spring clean, always always back up your registry before doing any alterations including cleaning but luckly this does it for you.

All free as well which is nice :D

to save you some time, you'll need to download windows installer cleanup (http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe) (direct link), now i'm not sure what to exactly remove but there should be some entries like 'pcguard' or 'pcadvisor'. (if you're not sure what to remove ask here before removing them)

this is the way VM will say if you phone them up about it

A repair.

Have you tried removing the old install folder from the HD? You may need to clean out your registry for it to install correctly if this doesn't work.
