ever since last week when the sw area (newton abbot) was upgraded i was dissapointed with the upgrade to 20mb. poor speeds, very unstable etc etc

but in the last 2 days i have noticed a vast improvement!!! i no speed tests mean diddly but my results have jumped by 4mb and the dl's from the vm game demo's are maxing out :D

i must admit i had my doubts about the upgrade but atleast its hopefully stabilizing itself now

Yeah I have to agree, before I'd be lucky to reach 12mb/s on the speed test by now I am often reaching 16-18mb/s which I am really happy with!

I've always got great speeds at gamefiles, I think there's something wrong with VM's peering through because some American servers are terribly slow.

Re: significant improvement in the south west area!!

And the South East it seems.....:D

After some 3 months waiting to see something at least close to this 20Mb it seems like all the Mb buses have come at once down our street.....

A sustained 24Mb`s i was downloading at yesterday,with multiple downloads of course.(3.09MB):)
It`s not much worse today at around 18Mb`s.

I was going to give it a few days before pulling the party hats & streamers out but after testing mine, the next door neighbors and checking with a couple of other VM locals it seems we`re all getting better speeds this last 24 hours:)

The speedtests results have also dropped back below the DL results i`m seeing and thats not been the case this last couple of weeks.Even the crappy speedtests were giving me better results than any of the usual downloads i`d use to test.

Oh well,Patience is a virtue eh:)

Happy Bank holiday people:D

Can someone explain to me how to download at 3 megabytes per second on 20Mbit? Thanks.

By the way, no improvement here in Plymouth.

I`d like to know the answer to that too, especially after the last 3 months.:)
I thought it was some kind of Brucie bonus for inconvenience caused this last 3 months.

Have a look at your modem config buddy. You're getting speeds higher than you should on 20Mb.

have you got anything running while your doing these speed tests?

reason i ask is i have had utorrent running(dl'ing) before, without realising, and oviously that affected my results

is plymouth over subscribed perhaps? saying that surely i would get affected to by being on the same newton abbot ubr(that if you do run off that ubr)

do people in cornwall run from newton abbot too?

heres my latest result

Nah, I'm not that stupid. I know how stuff works :)

I reckon it's just a problem with my street cab or something like that, but there's no point of me telling them because they either won't believe me, or won't do anything about it.

I think if i had some torrent app running in the background any other dl speeds would be dramatically reduced not increased.Even the browsing speeds were dropping quite a bit if i had a torrent app running recently.

Not something i generally run during the day though and certainly not something thats ever running without my knowing about it;)

i was actualy saying that possibility of something else running to janipewter about his low dl speed, not you. i did quote from janipewter if you look  ;)

Actually, if anything, things are getting WORSE.

No I don't have anything else running which is using my bandwidth, and no I haven't been traffic shaped (I can't download enough in the time period to get shaped, lol).

Notice how my upload speed is fine, just the downstream is quite bad.

And look at my past tests - notice how none have exceeded 4Mb?

Phoned them many a time. They refuse to accept responsibility, and continuously blame it on my PC. Running Windows - "you must have spyware". Running Linux - "that operating system does not support 20meg". And I get that from both the Liverpudlians and the Asians. I can't win.

I could write a comedy series with some of my calls over the last 18 months never mind the recent "speed related" ones.......some of those were truly outstanding.:)
I`ve still got 2 months 2 weeks to run on my latest inconvenience deal so they have that long to keep up the good work. When i`ve seen things stay within reason for that long then i`ll consider dropping it and giving them £37 again.

I`ve now checked all machines & OS`s in the house.....including the drive with XP.I`ve checked them direct, and via the big beige router/firewall and i can confirm for any doubting VM techs out there that 20Mb works just fine on Linux. In fact mabey thats why i`m getting 24Mb at times eh.
Of course the VM techs on here already know better i`m sure:)

Ubuntu(7.04 & the yet to be released 7.10)
Puppy: 2.17(everything about puppy is super fast now)
Tinyme: 1.0.1(?)
Wolvix:cub & hunter 1.1.0
XP(SP2)

Just to be sure eh:)
