Ive done a test on Speedtest.net to test my speed becuase i allways feel things are not as good as they could or should be. Just this minute done the test. Results Below.
I was wondering if you could comment back and let me know if this is better or worse than I should be getting for the 2MB Broadband service from VM
Cheers

speedtest.net is fine for 2mb and should be good for 4mb, any faster and you're hitting the problem of the site using a too small file for testing. those 2 people on 2mb speed tests are fine, for 20mb user, use a proper test, eg 2 files from vm's ftp

Well im shocked usually I get really slow speeds downloading webpages (all the time) could be because Ive got a router and running UnrealIRCD from one of my laptops. But even before I started running that its slow. Ive rung VM up about it before and they said they cant contact my modem however they can tell me im using a LinkSys Router. How can that be!
umm, i also have virgin media M (2mb) and this is my results. very strange. my internet is really slow.

Has anyone tried things like deleting Temporary Internet Files,
removing some of the rubbish add-ons that programs add to
Internet Explorer?
Or try a different web browser ie: Mozilla Firefox

All of the above, but the best is Mozilla Firefox this makes the web much quicker but if you still want to use IE 6 / 7 also make sure the disk space set to hold your temp Internet files is not oversized it recomends 50 - 250 I would set it at 80MB
This setting can be found tools tab, internet options, browsing history. in IE 7 which you all should be using gives you options on what you want to delete.
While the speed tests look nice they don't give you a true picture. Try downloading a large file. The other way is hit start, run and type cmd in the command window, this will bring up a black window at the command promt type in tracert then a space then type in a url of a site you were visiting this will tell you were things are hanging up.
Hope this helps,,,,Speed tests don't mean richard :D
It is worth noting I am a qualified Engineer :p: but only with gas :D
