Hi, we have the 10mBps Virgin broadband (one of the last areas waiting the 20 upgrade). Generally just fine. BUT - we never get upload speeds above 48kBps. Have emailed support about this three times in the past three months, and they haven't replied.

My upload profile is mostly P2P, but speed testers (Dan Elwell, etc.) come up with the same - our uploads are HUGELY under what we are told we should get.

I signed up for the Virgin Media newsgroups, as per the website, on server news.cable.ntlworld.com, but just get an error message back from the server, so no joy there.

I'm on the 20 meg service and my upload speed at the moment is 56 KB/s. Strangely this is faster than my download speed from this particular server...but I'm sure that's unrelated.

Are you using a router, and if so, have you checked your settings?

I am. Which particular settings are you referring to? - the box is a mass of settings! It's a Dlink DI-614+, FYI.

I'd plug directly into the modem to rule out the router being the problem.

Will do. Watch this space.

Didn't the 10mbit package have a lower upload speed than the 20mbit package? The speed you're quoting is 384kbit

Point your browser to this (http://192.168.100.1/CmOpConfig.asp) page [u/p:root]. What does it say the upload is set to?

384kbits/s was ex-telewest. That's 48kBytes/s.
512kbits/s was ex-Ntl. That's 64kBytes/s.

I'm ex-Telewest. Are you saying Virgin limit customers from Telewest & NTL to lower upload speeds? Or .....?

I am saying that if you are still on 10meg then those are the upload speeds according to what network you are on.
On recieving the 20meg upgrade you should be on 768kb/s (that's 92kB/s) upload whether you are ex-ntl or ex-tw.

Theoretically. :)

You might have to reboot your modem to get it. I know I did. :)

Actually 768kb/s is 96KB/s...sheesh! can't even divide by 8 anymore. :)

Oddly, upload speeds doubled yesterday! Am now experiencing c85kb constantly. Website says we are still awaiting the 20mb upgrade, and it's hard to know whether I can get over the 10. Modem was rebooted yesterday.

Thanks to all for hints and suggestions

Remaining areas were upgraded a week ago today!

We're in Frome, usually on the Trowbridge router. I have on occasion had downloads that verified the previous 10 limit; none yet to indicate that we had had the increase. The increase in upload speeds quite definitely only started yesterday here, and I had cause to reboot the modem 2 or 3 times during the previous week. Either way. it's much better!

52K max upload here :(
no change from 10M speed...
in fact, i'm sure i can remember uploading at around 60K on 10M
