When I have my modem connected direct to my PC, I get speeds of 20k per sec. Soon as I hook it up to my router I get 800k-1mb.

Try and disable any firewalls and anti-virus progys including windows firewall and try again

If my NIC was fault then would I not be getting poor speeds anyway even with the router

I concur, it's also worth trying other Ethernet cables if you can, you may have a break somewhere.

Depends, even the speed you are getting from the router is a lot less than the 20Mb you should be getting.

Not enough info there. You've connected your laptop to what, and the result is the same as what?

Have you tried a different Ethernet cable.

Tried 4 different cables still the same thing yesterday. I even had the modem connected to my XBox 360 and it would not even connect to XBL. Today the speeds are up, roughly 700k. Its really starting to become annoying. The guy on the VM newsgroup says the power levels on the modem are out

Agent47,

Have you tried changing your ethernet adapter to force 100 Mbps Full Duplex rather than auto negotiate when connected direct to the modem? According to one of VM's help pages that can help (I can't actually find the page but it was linked to from the newsgroup announcement about the Ambit 100/120 modems).

Sorry, you have probably already done this but forgive me for asking. But you are rebooting the modem when you disconnect the router and attaching the PC or Xbox ?

Yeah, my speeds were poor when I had the 100 modem, but the 255 has made them worse.

Tres odd indeed !!

If you have run TCP Optimizer, revert it back to the default settings and try again.
Uninstall the NIC and reinstall

Apart from that, I think you need someone nerdier than me :D

Why arn't you connecting into the router constantly? Is there any reason why you need to direct connect?
