Past 2 days have been suffering from what i assume is a DNS issue ? Both lasting 2 or 3 hours, yesterday afternoon and also this morning. Its just came back so i thought id post here see if anyone else is having the issue.

Im in the RM11 postcode area in Hornchurch, Essex.

I refuse to phone technical support for a 25p a minute run arround.

thanks!

What are your symptoms? Might not be DNS.

symptoms - not being able to resolve any websites. Could still traceroute to my ventrilo server but no names resolved.

thats about all i tried before sighing and walking away.

What DNS servers have you been given?

Try setting the servers manually to see if it makes any difference :

DNS1: 194.168.4.100
DNS2: 194.168.8.100

ive take them down and will switch to them if this intermittent problem persists!

thanks

Why not try using OpenDNS? I use them and haven't had a problem with DNS issues. http://www.opendns.com/

Slightly different symprtom (RM14).

Yesterday (or was it the day before?), it "died while using", checking a forum, no more page, try google, no progress. Reset STB and router, still have default gateway, but traceroutes die at the third hop - no DNS either, because nothing is getting any further.

Called status line, only a 20Mb issue mentioned.

Called tech (25p/min) - wasted quite some minutes then they offered a callback.

Callback, had to pull the blasted router cable from underdesk to top (must get a cable joiner!), wasted more time when any fool could have put 2 and 2 together from the traceroute, turned out it was them.

Today, it cut similarly, but on resetting the router, it has no gateway, and on resetting the STB, it firmware updated - maybe an incoming update breaks broadband, so you have to let the router update.

After that, it cleared up.

I've recently praised cable reliability over ADSL, but now I'm not so sure.
