Are you using a router? I've seen limited connectivity when the IP address (the internal network one, not the Internet IP) changes from something like 192.168.1.100 (with subnet mask 255.255.255.0) to something like 168.100.1.1 (with subnet mask 255.255.0.0).

No mate, ive plugged a router in in the past but im not using a router. Other modems work fine on the computer and other computers work fine with the modem so its a problem between the modem and the computer.

If you have removed the router then I'm guessing that your Local Area Connection still has a DHCP lease to the local LAN from your router days. Make sure it has an "Internet IP" if you are using a stand alone PC.

Echoing those sentiments....

With the modem on and attached to the computer do the following

1) From command prompt type in ipconfig look at the address assigned to your NIC if its 192.x.x.x then type in ipconfig /release. shutdown the PC power off the cable modem, wait ten seconds, then power back on, wait one minute and then power the PC back on and check again.

If the address shows as 169.x.x.x then the NIC has auto assigned an IP due to it being unable to connect to a DHCP server.

If the address is something like 82.x.x.x or 62.x.x.x then the pc has a public internet address.

limited connectivity means 169ip
go to start, run type netsh winsock reset
