View Full Version : What the World Eats
Found this fascinating so thought I'd share it...
What's on family dinner tables in fifteen different homes around the globe? Photographs by Peter Menzel from the book "Hungry Planet"

Don't fancy the Polish speciality much... :erm: and there are bottles of Coke/Pepsi in far too many of the photo, imo.
There's nothing wrong with Coke/Pepsi (although I prefer Dr Pepper).
Given this is the one for Great Britian then I wouldn't credit any of them as being typical ;
Great Britain: The Bainton family of Cllingbourne Ducis
Food expenditure for one week: 155.54 British Pounds or $253.15
Favorite foods: avocado, mayonnaise sandwich, prawn cocktail, chocolate fudge cake with cream
£155 a week ? I spend 2/3 of that and have five + a dog to feed- and as for avacado, prawn coctail being favorite - no chance.
(and where the hell is Cllingbourne Ducis ?)

I would definitely go to the The Al Haggan family of Kuwait City for dinner as chicken biryani with basmati rice is one of my favourite meals. :drool:
(and where the hell is Cllingbourne Ducis ?)here (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=com.ubuntu:en-US:official&hs=SKx&resnum=0&q=Collingbourne%20Ducis&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&um=1&sa=N&tab=wl)... I guess even Time Magazine makes typos every now and again.
ps - I agree about Dr Pepper ;)
Not much of a selection in the Chad kitchen. :erm:

Oh I thought I recognised the name, been there before...it's posh :p:
Very interesting, tried guessing the local before scolling, 50 / 50 at a guess, interesting that Germany had the highest outlay p/w, is that because of the choice of foods or the cost of living ? anyone know or been to Germany ?
I'm suprised I didnt see a mediterranean diet.
A lot of people in the south of France live long due to the fact they eat lot's of tomatoes, fish, olive oils, and fresh vegetables & fruits.
And I'd say drinking some red wine can help too.
