View Full Version : Finally rid of my expensive Virgin phone

Yippee it has finally been disconnected.

I am fed up every 3 months phoning CS and asking for it to be disconnected and they say they will credit me for 3 months. I don't use it. I had to have it in order to get a TV package.

I use VoIP. My average monthly bill is about £8. So how could I justify paying Virgin £11/month plus call costs.

Virgin obviously now listening to customers. But why does their web order site still insist on you still having a phone when you try to get a TV package?.

We tried to cancel our phone, went over to vonage for £8 pm phoned VM but got a for life deal instead, to say the least vonage is now history and we pay next to sod all for what would have cost us an extra £19 pm :Yikes:

I use BT for line rental, 1899/18866 and similar companies for calls. VM are still too expensive for calls, and they also block these over ride providers. Also caller displayer is not free with VM.

Well for me, I signed up on-line late on a Wednesday night (about 11pm) and the equipment was in my hands on Friday evening. The courier had delivered it on Friday morning - it needs signing for so make sure that someone's in. It literally took ten minutes to connect up, six of which was trying to get my DECT phone unplugged from the landline socket and the cables out of the ducting they were hidden in.

They will also send you a tracking number which use can use to track the status of the delivery

lol i just phoned virgin to cancel the phone and was speaking to a robot in India and after 10 minutes he told me he cant cancel as my name was not on the bill. I explained to him that i am on the account and have a password but he just said " is there anything else you would like today " i then lost it and asked him to put me through to retentions but after holding for 10 minutes i gave up so i think i will call again @ 3pm when the Mrs gets home. The trouble is i just know they are going to offer me 3 for £30 with unlimited uk calls :p: does anyone have the direct number for retentions / cancellations

Perhaps you would care to point out where the 6p connection charge is in the BT price list, secondly, it might surprise you to know Virgin Media charge by the minute.

It does not surprise me, what I was pointing out was that BT's charges are very similar to VM now, except BT's evening and 0845/0870 are still significantly lower. There are many alternatives to Bt for calls though such as Primus Saver 2.

Here is the announcement about the increase in the connection fee to 6p, hidden in all the spin about the cut in their charges.

Virgin Media's spin is worse.

I was surpirised you didn't link directly to the relevant BT page, never mind. Frankly, BT is and it is a fact, a far better telephony service for the average customer than Virgin Media. BT charges are not similar to Virgin Media, VM telephony charges are far too high. BT still offers a far better deal and clearly prices, except for the Monday - Friday daytime calls are falling. BT also offer good call analysis on line which for VM is unexplored territory. Many areas of VM still do not have CLID, and there is no chance they will get it.

I know I get a better deal from BT, I also know I get a far better broadband service than I did with VM. It's a pity since without doubt, the V+ service is superb, so far, someone in VM should get their thinking caps on and make the telephony service more competitive, there is evidence the company has had a loss of customers due to the telephony charges and the executives are aware but still delay any serious reductions.

I shall be working on dumping our VM telephony service as soon as I can.

The link was very long, so I used tinyurl if that is what you mean, as for not linking earlier I had read about it in a news report but not seen BT's release.

I have found out since that BT's release may mean that Saturday and Sunday mornings/afternoons may count under the daytime rate and not the evening rate. If you read it as it is written that would seem to be what they imply. This could mean a very hefty increase in call charges to mobiles and 0845/0870.

I have found out since that BT's release may mean that Saturday and Sunday mornings/afternoons may count under the daytime rate and not the evening rate.

See below.

BT is also changing the way it charges for fixed to mobile calls and calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers. These calls will move from Daytime-Evening-Weekend rates to Daytime (6am – 6pm) and Evening (6pm – 6am) rates. Calls to mobiles will change from 13p / 8p / 5p per minute to 12.5p / 7.5p (or 9p / 5p for customers using the CallMobile package). 0845 calls will change from 3p / 1p / 0.5p to 2p / 0.5p per minute whilst 0870 calls will change from 7p / 3.5p / 1.5p to 6p / 1.5p per minute.

Mobile charges up for weekend calls only, but 0870/0845 are going down.

Mobile
From 13p - To 12.5
From 8p -- To 7.5
From 5p -- To 7.5

If yu read BT's announcement where does it talk about weekends. It says Daytimes and Evenings, this can be read that these apply 7 days a weeks. So 2pm on Saturday is the same as 2pm on Friday.

What's why I have listed evenings and weekends as the SAME rate to show the differences.
