Okay, past few months i have been having realy big issues with my upload speeds and packetloss. i recently contacted Virgin, and they said there is a problem with SNR on my UBR. they did fix it the other night, they changed my downstream channel to 6, and my upstream to 1. I just rebooted my modem and now my modem's channels are set back to channel 6 down, channel 3 up.

Name WebSTAR DPX100
Modem Serial Number SM0944XXX
Hardware Version 2.1
Software Version 1.0.5 r1.1.3 (cm.update.bin)
Receive Power Level 4.80 dBmV
Transmit Power Level 37.00 dBmV
Cable Modem Status operational

Downstream Status Operational
Channel ID 6
Downstream Frequency 331000000 Hz
Modulation QAM256
Bit Rate 4096000 bps
Power Level 4.16 dBmV
Signal to Noise Ratio 36 dB

Upstream Status Operational
Channel ID 3
Upstream Frequency 29200000 Hz
Bit Rate 384000 bps
Power Level 37.00 dBmV

I have noticed that also, my power level has jumped from -0.50 to +4.80 after i reset it. I have been told that part of the problem is that these channels are too close. I really dont understand the problem, i can download at my max 4Mbit, but my upload is around 20-80kbit, in return causing loss. I am on UBR01 Sandwell.

Should i request out an engineer?

Thanks
Martin

:) Hi dont know much about the telewest network levels but you say you get packet loss have you tried a constant ping ie ping -t bbc.co uk .It could be the modem or the network .There seeems to be big problems across the country at the moment but do try the ping :)

Not sure about ex-telewest side, but on ex-ntl after a while, the upstreams would slowly end up on the same channel ending up with an over used upstream channel and the ubr dropping packets.

It's fine now, it randomly happens. Sometimes its good, mostly its messed up. My power levels have dropped to a good level.

Downstream Status Operational
Channel ID 6
Downstream Frequency 331000000 Hz
Modulation QAM256
Bit Rate 4096000 bps
Power Level 0.95 dBmV
Signal to Noise Ratio 36 dB

I got no loss at the moment, but it's random.

I cant do a speedtest @ speedtest.net, because i can do a download test but the upload test won't work. My download speed is over 4Mb. so im not suffering "download" issues. But my upload is suffering.

Randomly back again, anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Hi your levels look ok you could try ping plotter and run it for a day this will show where your lag is .It is a good programe i use it a lot :) I know this may sound stupid but are you using the origanal power supply with the modem ? i have seen this so many times ie .Packet loos poor speeds because the modem has the wrong power supply .But do try ping plotter :)

Martie07

yes its the same modem and power supply i have had for the past 3 years. i will give pingplotter a try. Thank you.

I was also considering plugging my modem into where my STB plugs in downstairs, to see if it makes a difference.

really bad today, i have attached a picture of pingplotter. starting to think this wont ever get fixed. The loss starts at my UBR.
