Hi

any1 know much about changing in-car CD player??

i got a Sony CD player as a present before i even got the car
now that i brought a C3 i dunno how to change it

is it straight forward??
how do i remove the original??
i see 4 holes (1 at each corner)
do i need to stick something into all 4 holes??

think i need to buy extra adapters to get everything working??

if you can find the make and model on the halfords website, pop it in your basket and select your car make/ model and it will tell you if you need facia or wiring harness adaptors and if so which ones. I wouldn't recommend buying them from halfords though- you'll get them cheaper at a local car audio shop.

From your description sounds like you need a DIN removal tool- http://www.caraudioplus.co.uk/Tools/Car_Radio_Removal_Tools/DIN_Radio_Removal_Tool

Fairly easy to use- put one piece in either side and fiddle until the stereo will slide out. The tools can also be made cheaply from old coathangers ;)

You will probably need an adaptor to get it to match your car's wiring as Sony don't usually use standard plugs/fixings (obviously :p: - Yeah, Cheap shot at Sony) But otherwise its really a straightforward job assuming you can get the wiring adaptor to match your car.

I think you'll need the following:
If your car is post 2005 you'll need a Facia Adaptor (http://thebassbin.co.uk/shop/product/products_id/2038.html). For the 2002-5 model you don't need one.
Wiring Harness adaptor. (http://www.prestigeaudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=481) There is mixed information on this though- some saying that the 2002-5 model has an ISO connection as standard, some say it doesn't. I can't remember if Sony use ISO connections, i have a feeling for some reason they don't... and if they don't you'll also need a Sony -> ISO adaptor.

Best advice is to go to Halfords and ask them- they have guys who do the installations there, so they will know which bits you need for your make of car and stereo.

well if they sell the bits you need for a reasonable price then you could buy them ;) and if they don't then you could not buy anything on the grounds that they didn't have what you were looking for!!

I don't see the problem with just going in and asking though... you never know the person who bought you the stereo might have got it from Halfords!!

If you really aren't comfortable with it just buy an air freshener to keep your nice new car nice ;)

If you have steering wheel controls for your current stereo - bear in mind these may not work on your new one ;)

at last found a forum

but its started to scare me off doing it myself
http://www.citroenpicasso.org.uk/citroen/index.php?showtopic=2161
says it might affect the central locking

hmmm might hold off installing it myself :(

know of any cheap pros in the Bournemouth area??
or i might see if Citroen will get it done next time i service (which is a long time)

Edit:
great
had a look at the Ebay item from a link in that forum
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Official-Citroen-C2-C3-Aftermarket-ISO-Stereo-Cable_W0QQitemZ170021619310QQihZ007QQcategoryZ1493 2QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

and it says i need to get Citroen dealer to remove the head unit with their diagnostic computer
so think ill have to wait till i get a service and do it then
no point in going in a Citroen garage just to get this done
