What speed should I expect to get with a 4mb connection the top speed I’ve had so far is 3mb that was when I downloaded net framework from the Microsoft website. If I run a test online at http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/ my speed is only 2.5mb. Virgin Media say I am getting my full 4mb so were is the other 1mb going

Must be because of Peak Hours, During Peak Hours speeds are bad, at Night / Early Morning, Speeds should be better/full.

If you read the T&C's it says up to 4Mb. There are many reasons why you won't get 4Mb, some are down to Virgin Media and some are down to the websites you are connecting to. There can be a bottleneck anywhere in the connection between you and a website, that's just the 'Net for you.

I understand that but if the best I can get with 4mb conection is 3mb then it follows I would only get 3mb if I had a 10mb conection is that right

If you were on ntl before it was changed to VM then go to http://192.168.100.1/

user: root
pass: root

on there under "system configuration" or something like that it should have your upload and download speeds.
