hi all :)

im sick of this now theres been other types of threads like this but on another thread ppl were saying well it could be your area is over subscribed lol.
i think its capping :(
what it is im trying to download the eve online client which was a measlly 600+ mbs i left it running untill 200 mbs i downloaded which was a speed of 210 kbp/s
after i got the 200 mbs guess what my speed was halved to 1 meg :(
heres the proof :(

1st 512K took 4297 ms = 119.2 KB/sec, approx 982 Kbps, 0.96 Mbps
2nd 512K took 4468 ms = 114.6 KB/sec, approx 944 Kbps, 0.92 Mbps
3rd 512K took 4391 ms = 116.6 KB/sec, approx 961 Kbps, 0.94 Mbps
4th 512K took 4438 ms = 115.4 KB/sec, approx 951 Kbps, 0.93 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 960 Kbps, 0.94 Mbps

why in the hell cant i download a simple 600 mb files which isnt illegal or anything its off the eveonline website ?

there was suggestions that virgin (muppet media) cap your connection after youve downloaded 2 gigs id be happy for this if i had downloaded 2 gig but i havent ive downloaded 200 mb sffs :(

More likely that your UBR is saturated. When/ what time did you try downloading that file?

Peak time, your area of the network is probably flooded with people hammering their connections. I would run speed tests at various times of the day and if it's c**p all day then get on the phone, if it's peak time that it's rubbish then the odds are your area is full of P2P kiddies.

Hey mate, having same trouble here except im on the 10 meg and been getting 4-5 meg all day, is annoying, but VM say nothing on the phone, i tried doing Windows Updates, and well, it slowed right down... and now all of a sudden i get 1.5 meg!! high ping rates,:td:
Connection was more stable on a 2meg going through the STB...

forget speedtest.net atthis time, they are busy. Try other speed tests and then get a broader idea as to your speed.

ITs not always your connection which is slow, it can be the other end. Things are getting harder for servers to keep up. Your trying to download at 10mbps and so are loads of others, the server your downloading from only has so much upload speed available.

I tested with speedtest.net and my speed said 2mbps. Tiscalis speed test said 8mbps and bulldogs 10mbps.

Speedtest.net is very popular and at this time of day the london servers will be busy and the eastern european servers have a crap link to us.

I'm not sure speed tests are telling us everything, last night every single speed test I could find was giving me 1.7 - 2.7MB/s yet I started downloading iso's from the virgin media mirrors and got 7.9MB/s by downloading 6 at a time,
the first 5 where all running at 200KB/S (1.56 MB/s ).

I'm using a TJ210 so I'm surprised I got that high.

That looks like the speeds I've been getting tonight. Download was terrible, but the upload seems ok.

Maybe the speedtest.net site is or has been busy, but that desnt explain the slow surfing all day, still after peak its s**t, even downloading under 200 k/b sec on microsoft.com, I think people that don't have 10meg have a more stable connection, How do you find out if the UBR you are on is over subscribed? i was reading about it on here, but VM say nothing on the phone, they are useless
