Hi newbie here!

Im having speed problems with the 4mb cable bb service, download speeds are so random, getting anything from 80kbs to 350kbs using various reliable download sources such as microsoft, tucows etc (ones I have used before with full speeds).

The problem started when we went from 2mb to 4mb and at the same time switched across from STB to CM (ntl 250). I have talked to CS tech but the thing was downloading at 350kbs at the time and they said all was fine, so may have ring back and see if they can help.

I have posted the stats from the modem here if it helps anyone:

op config section:
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 4096000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 400000

downstream section:
Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 2
Downstream Frequency : 586750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM64
Downstream Symbol Rate : 6952 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps12Increment17
Downstream Receive Power Level : -1.1 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 33.5 dB

upstream section:
Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 1
Upstream Frequency : 33584000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QPSK
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 55.3 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

Cheers guys, help really appreciated!

Jason

There is probably nothing wrong with your connection. Like 99% of people here, its just over subscription and throttling making it so slow. Be thankful you get 80kbs, most people dont even get that! ;)

just a quick update, called tech support again as I was getting download speeds of no more that 30kbs recently, they have confirmed there is "loss" on the line and I have an engineer coming out on Monday.
