I was just wondering if they support 10Mbit because we have been paying for this service ever since they introduced it, but from some posts I get the impression it will does support 10Mbit and I need to order a seperate modem??

Of course I could be wrong and the samsung box may support it! I hope it does:)

:welcome: to the site.

The Samsung boxes definitely aren't suitable for 10 meg... They struggle with half that. You should have been given a free Stand Alone Cable Modem by CS. I'd call them as soon as you can, otherwise you won't be getting full speed.

no, about 6-7Mb/s I'm afraid. I would seriously consider looking at swapping to a modem.

WTF!!! FFS NTL did NOT mention did and I do seem to remember we got the Samsung box when 10mbit was introduced and the engineer said it was to support the new speeds. Ah well will we have to pay for this or get it for free once we phone up? Also can I just have it delivered and set it up myself?

No, the engineer will have to test your signal levels and do some tweaking to ensure that it's stable on the network.

It will be free... But i'd go for them for compensation for lack of service.

NTL never told me when they upgraded. I had to notice myself. I had to downgrade to 4 meg to get a stable connection.

Will definitely look at claiming some compensation for this lack of service, is it best to write to the management or phone customer services??? Either way does somebody have the address or telephone number for whichever would be considered the best? Also would it make any difference since Virgin took over since they did not own the company during the majority of the time? Or do they inherit all the responsibility for any past neglegence before they took over?

IMPORTANT: DOES ANYBODY KNOW THE DATE 10MBIT CAME INTO EFFECT ON THE WHOLE?

ALSO will my upload speed be affected or will I be getting the 512kbps that I should be? Which is a pathetic upload speed anyway, but I think they are all bad in the UK anyway no matter who you go with lol.

These speeds are from my modem, the Samsung can't handle this 10M, you should have been told plus being given a modem.

1st 512K took 454 ms = 1127.8 KB/sec, approx 9293 Kbps, 9.08 Mbps
2nd 512K took 671 ms = 763 KB/sec, approx 6287 Kbps, 6.14 Mbps
3rd 512K took 407 ms = 1258 KB/sec, approx 10366 Kbps, 10.12 Mbps
4th 512K took 578 ms = 885.8 KB/sec, approx 7299 Kbps, 7.13 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 8311 Kbps, 8.12 Mbps

How VERY annoying that they did not inform us of this and supply the modem!!! If anybody knows roughly when 10mbit started it will help when contacting them.
