Does anyone know if it is possible to run virgin broadband (cable) with Windows 98SE I know on there site it is not mentioned as they say 2000 or above but is it possible?

I will be going wireless (most likley a belkin router) so will this make a difference?

thanks;)

:welcome: to CF

Virgin shouldn't care what OS is running - esp if it's behind a router. As long as the 98 system has drivers for the wireless adapter and can connect to the router then it will be fine.
The only problem that might arise is if you were connecting via USB direct to the Cable Modem - there might not be drivers for that - but behind a router or direct via an Ethernet connection is fine.
(Note - you usually need a wired connection to the router to configure wireless.)

Thanks Aragorn.

Im moving over from adsl. I have a belkin adsl router, and will need to change this for a cable one, but do you know if I have to change the wireless card in the computer also or is there no need for this?

you won't have to change the card, just the router.

Dumb question:dunce:
What's the difference between an ADSL router and a Cable router? Don't both use a WAN connection to modem, presumably not?

An 'ADSL router' normally has a built-in modem, so the cable from the phone socket plugs directly into the router. In a Cable router, the WAN connection is via ethernet.

Just so ya know, if you're a new customer to VM, the tech support team will not support win98se if ya have any probs. "Downgrade" to Vista!
