Hi all,
I have just upgraded to the VIP Pack (awaiting my V+ Box)and having posted elswhere and reading a few threads it seems I need a new modem to make full use of the new speeds.

I bought my current modem from NTL years ago and it is a Terayon TJ210.

Apparently it doesnt support 10meg, nor QAM256 which someone said VM are upgrading to in each area one at a time. (QAM doesnt mean a thing to me  )

Do I buy or rent a new modem from VM?

Will I have a choice..if so model / make which do I get?

Will it support QAM256

Any ideas on cost?

Thanks in advance

You rent the modem from Virgin Media now and you will get whatever modem the engineer has in the van. They will give you one that supports 10Mb and Qam256. :)

Price is included in your broadband cost.

So I just phone up and say give me a modem ??? If no extra cost shouldnt I be getting a discount for having my own ??

Why didnt I get offered a new modem when I went to VIP...still confused !!

Yep ring them up saying you have the Terayon modem and it isn't capable of 10Mb, so you would like a replacement. They might send you one in the post or they might send an engineer round.

Well, the guy took a litle convincing that the modem wasnt capable of 10meg, but eventually he agreed and an engineer is coming round day after tomorrow (they wouldnt send me one in the post)

Cool. :tu:

Let us know how you get on. Should be just a simple switch over.

Make sure you don't let the engineer take away your old modem as you own it and not Virgin. Not that you can do much with it apart from making it a door stop!

Just one quick query, as I will be in work and the wife is at home...will the engineer have to turn the PC on at all when he installs the new modem (to register it or whatever) or it just a case of a straight swap
