View Full Version : Anyone suffering internet problems today?

I have been unable to access the internet via my ntl/virgin cable modem account, for c. 24 hrs.
I have been able to use email, without difficulty.
Virgin checked the normal (IP address etc...) and I turned-off my firewalls etc, but this did not work.
Virgin claim that even with my firewalls turned off "other firewalls may be blocking access" and tell me to call their £1 per minute "PC Helpline" to sort this out!
I have NEVER experienced this problem before and have not made any changes to my set-up.
Before calling the costly help-line, has anybody else recently suffered similar problems, please?

...If you have not experienced loss of service at anyother time and haven't changed with your network settings or to that effect then it could quite simply be a network fault that will be sorted out.

...The tech support should be able to check your particular area in one way or another.

I live in Dolphin Square (London) which has a (hopelessly under-performing) NTL network all of its own.

Jokjing aside - are Dolphin Square's "network issues" THAT notorious, even outside of the building?
No wonder we are all trying to get Sky to take-over the franchise.

I noticed i had no internet today when i woke up. The little indicator light was out on the modem. I turned my PC on, went and had my cornflakes, and when i got back the "cable" and "data" both started flashing and the service came back. I checked the ntl web site but i says nothing about any planned outages in my area (Renfrew).

MAYBE Virgin/NTL don't like confessing to the number of outages they actually suffer and just list a handful???

Hi
The west of Scotland seems to have been first in the queue in recent times for new services from NTL. Film Flex and the V+ box for example. I suspect we are being lined up for a broadband speed upgrade. Over the past week or so i have been checking the download speed using PC Pitstop Optimise and getting figures between 9 and even slightly over 15mbs :angel: before 8am. Previously i would only get around 5 - 8 mbs . Of course i'm on the 10mb band at the moment.If they are fiddling about with the system there will be the odd break in the service. Here's hoping. (Paisley)

i suffer from slow speeds, and my send and receive lights hardly ever light up.
