Hi -

I am currently on 4Mb via a Samsung STB. When I moved up speeds I had to re-register on start.autoreg.net.

I'm moving upto the VIP pack and just received my self install kit (NTL 250 + splitter and cables) There's also a start CD which installs the drivers and AV etc.
I don't really want to install this on my PC to get going - So..

Do SACM work differently? Do I need to install the drivers onto a PC so I can register the modem ala STB or is the MAC address registered registered to me and CS just have to activate it so it's just a case of plugging the modem in, patching this into my router and phoning them up or do I have to install the software onto a PC to complete my name and account info?

Grateful for any help.

You shouldn't need the CD unless you want to install the USB drivers for the modem...

...And it's best to use ethernet rather than USB anyway.

Should AFAIK just be a case of turning it all off, hooking it all up, then turning back on again (modem first) & connecting. I think you need to register, but that can be done without the CD (https://autoreg.autoregister.net/start.html).

Have a read of these.....

... although I'm not sure if any of the info has changed since they were written & since the rebrand...

I think the new branded cd broadband disc does not have usb drivers any more
they now supply usb net work adapter for customers that only have usb ports.

Cheers guys - I gave it a try tonight and the start page has changed - seems I need a serial number !?!?!? Which came with the 'Welcome Pack'... which of course I haven't had as I'm a current customer I presume.

...and I thought I'd just have to enter my PID and password. I'll ring them tomorrow.

I just have to get it going for the VIP pack.

Update - phoned them up and got all my details so it's go for tonight.

One more question if poss - do I have to clone my network card MAC address on the router as I had to with the STB?

Thanks all

Nope, no need.

When you use a cable modem, if you ever want to connect something different to it, you just need to power cycle the modem, no need for MAC cloning or registering.
