Could just be a bad route with them as newsdemon is really slow for me right now (100-200kb/s) while giganews is maxin out at 1.2mb/s

I'm on 2 meg and been using newsdemon all day, its been maxed out constantly. No problems :D Im on the useast server

If it is bad routing for some people then people on alot of other news servers will have the same problem too because newsdemon are resellers of highwinds-media so they use their servers and so do alot of other usenet providers. Such as usenet-news, thundernews & newsgroups-download.

(easynews beta is 1.2 mb/s useing instead of my payed account on newsdemon right now !)

How muxh did you download before your speed dropped away? If you are being capped then you will be capped no matter what servers you pull from.

I used the europe server for the first 10 days but I found useast to be the better one for me.

I was going to try giganews next month but you can't pay with debit card (im only 13 so I just have a solo debit card). Plus giganews for me takes a really good route:

If you can go giganews as its much bigger and in my experience very stable in its NNTP whereas easynews nntp servers are awful but there http is very fast.
It might be worth deleting your clients spool file and signiture file just in case. You could try grabbit to rule out the client. Try setting a different proxy I may have imagined it but this has made a difference or appeared to for me before
Try the different server address is there is one

I think GigaNews needs to accept debit cards, then I would go with them :D Im the same as you Locky, only got PayPal or solo.

well my only card is a visa electron which is a debit card and i had no probs signing up with giganews..........newsdemon are pants, they were the first i tried using as they took pp, but they farm out pp users to different servers (which from experience were better), but then changed my payment and had to start a new account with them and after that found that was only getting maybe half the speed that i was previously.

but now with giganews and have no probs maxing out

They probably won't give you a full refund but they might give you some money back. Also I emailed giganews a few weeks ago about other ways of payment but they said they don't allow anything else because of security issues or someething.

Edit: Found the email!

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Giganews Customer Care!

For security and identification purposes, we do require that payments be
made using either a credit card, or an online purchase capable debit card.

We do know of customers using prepaid debit cards, such as a PayPal
MasterCard debit card; this allows use of your PayPal account to pay for
Giganews accounts.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to
let us know.

Thanks for choosing Giganews!

No such thing as unlimited, no provider will let you do more than a few hundred gig a week without capping you (including giga)

yeah i have re-opened my previous ticket about the speed saying the only thing could be them capping me if this is the case, i will seek a refund as they advertise a unlimited product, clearly that isnt the case.

But your downloading 90GB in a few days, thats quite a lot!

What are you doing with it!?

When your doing that much in a matter of days its fairly obvious that someone is selling dvds etc

We both know that is a lie.

I dont care if you do sell them, companies screw us over anyway.

Point is, i know you do between 400-900GB/Month, and no one has that much HD space to keep downloading constantly, so alot must be getting burnt off..and well, either you dont pay for anything u watch, or you sell ;)

I am with Astraweb newsgroup hostings and they're pretty good. When I was on the NTL Telewest 20mbit trial I was downloading at full 2400 ksec, plus it only costs about £8 a month. Excellent value for money in my opinion.

I use usenetserver (http://www.usenetserver.com?refer=169275). They've just upgraded to 90 days retention. With a plan to go past 100 days. Best of all they are only $39 for three months for unlimited use.

Been with them over a year and never had any problems. Always max out my 2mb connection.

Since the NTL usenet servers got sorted recently, I have been getting smooth 380KB/s downloads (10 threads), no need to pay for a service unless I want some of the groups NTL doesn't provide.

max i can get on newsdemon is 30kbps for most of this week, BY maxxes out but so many incompletes its pointless, or they just failed 'post purged' even with things that are 1/2days old.

VirginMedia :td: :td: :td: :td: :td: :td:

What's that got to do with Virginmedia?

Some people are far to quick to kick a company when there could be so many possibilities for things not working correctly. :td:

I'm using Newshosting and don't have any speed issues.

Ive tried different computer, rebooted modem, contacted newsdemon, ive ruled out every possibility of a problem my end and newsdemon says no problem, obvious choice to blame virgin, and my friend who lives down the road is having exactly the same problems, dont think im jumping on the bandwagon here.
