Hi Guys I work on a website forum but when the boards are set to off I can't access the server.

I'm using Windows XP Home ED.

I have so far added the IP adress and website name to the hosts file, but I still can't connect to it. the pages reads as follows:

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

If I ping the website in the cmd console it tried to ping the IP address so that's set corectly in the hosts file. I've turned my firewall of as well.

So next I put a trace on the link to the webiste and get gets to the right server but it just times out and doesn't get in. I'm thinking it might be something to do with proxies. Any help I would be greatful.

:welcome: to Cable Forum :tu:

Can you get to your forum's web page using the format http://IP/forum? If you are able to ping, and traceroute I'm more inclined to suggest that the server is the bit refusing the connection / isn't set up correctly.

I'm not 100% sure how to do that and don't know what I need to change it to.

Goto Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> Connection -> Settings

Select Manual Proxy Configuration and enter the address and for the port enter 8080 and click OK.

hmm, I can't get to anything using that link. just a "cannot establish connection" message. there is nothing at the home page of the site xbox360leages.co.uk either. I'd suggest the server isn't even running yet.
