Are you using a proxy? I found that I couldn't get JAVA stuff to work if I set a proxy, so i have to turn it off when I want to use JAVA. ;)

I had problems and found one of the problems was caused by my Proxy, but it sounds like you haven't set one, you may want to try a quick read through this thread:

http://forum.nthellworld.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2631&highlight=java

I found that d/l from this site fixed it for me, I used the top link on the page ;)

java-virtual-machine.net (http://java-virtual-machine.net/download.html)

Thanks to Caspar for the link ;)

Javascript is not the same as Java, they are completely unrelated despite the names :)

I've had a quick peek at the sites you're trying to access and I think the problem is with Javascript and not Java. When it displays Javascipt:void() it means that nothing is happening when you click on the link, the browser is being told to do nothing. I'm not sure why this is, you could try clearing your cache and try again.

Dell, I'm not sure about MS JavaVM but with the Sun JavaVM you can add a proxy to it in windows control panel --> Java Settings

Cheers for clearing up the first part for us (re: Javascript) I never did get all this tecno stuff ;)

The Java console I have installed seems to pick up my proxy settings from ie6 and then tries to use them itself (so I'm told) but the proxy seems to block it d/l the applet (or something  ) so I have to turn off the proxy and load the applet, then switch the proxy back on again [bloody Ntl  ].

But it all works in the end, which is the main thing.

Right off to do some work :)

I'm at a loss, if you have cleared your cache and made sure that scripting is enabled then I don't know what else to suggest. It's strange that it affects two different browsers, are you running any popup blockers?

To bypass the problem you could try the following URLs

https://www.rank.com/rank?action=GoLoginPage&nav=IE for Rank.com

and

https://www.attheraces.co.uk/cgi-bin/attheraces/ukro/punter/login/ploLogin.jsp for AtTheRaces

If you are running a firewall with a script blocker or a seperate script blocking agent it wont allow the Javascipts to run. If you havent check your settings

Mine wont even let me on the first page of those sites.

Tools
options
security
in the panel check the script section.

Aplly the new settings
close ALL IE windows
restart IE

try the site again.

try looking for programs like ad-aware + ad-watch. make sure they are not running and you should be able to log in to the sites.
