Sorry if this is wrong place to ask but I have got to start somewhere.

First of all, :welcome: to Cable Forum.

Ntl will install the cable connection point inside your house and will then attach the Stand Alone Cable Modem (SACM) or Set Top Box (STB) to it.

They won't connect the SACM/STB to your computer however, you will be responsible for doing that. However, if you get stuck there's enough people in here that will be willing to help you sort it out :)

Whether you get a SACM or STB will depend (I think) on what area of the country you are in.

Sometimes life just offers too much choice doesn't it :D

If you tell us your router, somebody might be able to tell if its just a plug in job or if you need a different router.

Thanks.
Looking at replies I will have to hard wire from SAM/desk Top box to desk computer which is in a room upstairs to resite the modem or will NTL put connection box where I want?
Router is BT wireless network 1250 2 wire and on my laptop have got a BT Voyager 1020 laptop adaptor.
Will I be able to download my BT Yahoo address to NTL or will I have to input all again?
As you say sooooo much choice.

That sounds like an ADSL wireless setup so you may need to change equipment. If you want to stay wireless then I'm sure people here will give advice on what to buy.
From the BT home networking site
†¢ BT home networking equipment is not compatible with cable broadband.
Link (http://www.bt.com/homenetworking/index.jsp?targetCategory=hn_howtoorder/hn_termsandconditions#HN1200_II)
So you will need to get a wireless setup that is compatible with NTL.

If you want advice on wireless then a read though this (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/article.php?a=74) might help but you can always post in the computers and IT area and you'll be sure to get plenty of advice :)
