There are drugs that can do this.

I suggest you get yourself down to your GP and discuss this with him/her.

It is possible:

http://www.cnn.com/US/9608/29/castration/

SACRAMENTO, California (CNN) -- Child molesters could face "chemical castration" under a unique and controversial California bill aimed at stifling the sex drives of convicted pedophiles.

The bill -- the first of its kind in the nation -- would allow judges to order first-time child molesters to take a hormone-suppressing drug upon their parole from prison.

(just an example, obviously)

There are drugs that can do this.

I suggest you get yourself down to your GP and discuss this with him/her.

i rang the gp this morning and he said that he considers my sex drive to be perfectly normally for my age and though there are tablets he could prescribe me to curb the problem he says that they have side-effects and that he is not prepared to prescribe me the tablets because it would be inappropriate.

i think the side affects are caused because the tablets contain hormones that combat the hormones my body is producing. although this may curb my sex drive it can also cause other things controlled by hormones to happen or not happen.

i assume the reason he sees it as inappropriate to prescribe me these tablets is because he sees my sex drive as normal and that religious grounds are not a good enough reason to tamper with my hormones.

he did suggest that i exercise more. im thinking of joining the gym.

anybody got any other suggestions of food or substances that can be taken which are not illegal which can reduce sex drive.

There are reasons why this may happen although your GP is probably right in that it may be normal. These reasons are pretty rare.

I would suggest you pop down to your local centre for sexual health and discuss it with them.

The only think I can think of is avoiding foods that are believed to be aphrodisiacs, like celery, oysters, chocolate etc.

Apart from that keep busy, I guess. Needless to say it's not easy, otherwise the church wouldn't have so many problems promoting it.

I know this is a serious thread but I think this joke (http://www.linuxrising.org/cortado/) is appropriate.

Well that didn't last long

Sorry had to remove the clip

My ISP called in tears asking me to take down the clip as it was eating the bandwith. Being a nice guy I didn't argue :). Sorry.

According to an NHS handbook I read on the sublect of religious, spiritual & cultural considerations, I can't find anything that would suggest that a doctor is able to prescribe you with such drugs on that basis. In fact, there is everything to suggest that a doctor would be doing you and your religion a disservice by allowing the use of such drugs rather than relying on your will power alone.
For a manual solution without side-effects, do a google for "male chastity" devices. Of course such devices, although keeping the bull in the barn, would not reduce the wearer's actual desires and some might find it rather kinky. Other alternatives are hypnosis and meditation.

i would tend to agree with this, wear yourself out. i find gyms pretty boring, so i'd take up a sport rather than join a gym.

this has the added advantage of being good for you as opposed to most drugs which are variously, for want of a better word, gender-bending... :erm:

Seriously now:

Stamp: Most drugs have some sort of side effect. You really shouldn't be considering using them unless you have a definate medical reason. As your GP told you.

Exercise probably is your best option (not least because after a couple of hours at a gym, you'll likely be too knackered to do anything else).

If you do chose excersise as a way of dealing with this issue then can I suggest that you don't go to a gym.

This may sound like I'm makin fun but I'm dead serious - if you are wanting to deal with your sex-drive the last thing you want is the site of firm lycra-clad bodies etc

I think you would only get a prescibed anti sex drive drug if there was a serious reason to justify it. For example, your own safety or the safety of others.

Do you not think this has a very '1984' feel to it, this idea of supressing emotion/desire by way of drugs. Except someone or a belief is making you want to do this rather than it being forced on you.

Isn't there an safer alternative, e.g. Yoga, Meditation or watching Trisha!

Cock Pushups! Tenacious D

Valerian is supposed to be a 'herbal' sedative, but I would advise checking up about any possible side effects or interactions with any other medication.

I have valerian tea.I ONLY drink it when in the throes of a severe migraine so as to induce sleep. It does say that it is not advisable to use when driving or using machinery because it induces drowsiness.

Apart from this I've nothing more to add to this discussion.Mind I've often wondered what Boy George meant when he said he preferred tea to sex. :erm:

I think it was his way of avoiding answering questions about his sexually as he didn't want to discuss his preferences when being interviewed he said he preferred a cup of tea to sex.

So, think of boy george and his cuppa and it will reduce your sex drive.

Not recommended but effective is excess alcohol. Unfortuantely this would increase desire but remove abilty.

On a serious note I would suggest meditation.

Not sure which religion we're talking about but it's worth mentioning that many Christians are against the practise of Yoga, something to do with the methods of breathing and spirituality *I think*. I've never looked in to the reasons actually.
