Hello. I work at ASDA and am always listening to ASDA FM. In this months ASDA Magazine it talks about the radio station and it says that not so long ago they started to encode it so no one else could listen except ASDA. It goes on to say that ASDA received loads of complains because people all over the country liked listening to it so they un-encoded it.

Question is, how do i listen to it at home?

I always thought it was a netcast, therefore only people on the ADSA network (ie individual stores) could recieve it.

Hi. I also work at Asda. And Asda FM drives me mad with it's constant output of high pitched, screaming, tuneless rubbish they call music.
Asda is a great company to work for, but being forced to listen to Asda FM continuoulsy is a definite low point.
Come on guys, do somethg about your playlist. Add some music wioth people weho can actually sing and some tunes that have a melody.

Is that what you're after?

Edit: Ah, I never noticed the date of this. I don't think the person above did either.

I thought ASDA FM (dont know why it's called FM when it's broadcast mainly by sat?) has always been encrypted!. I worked for them for several years (a bad employer in my experience of 2 seperate stores) and they often claim how it's 1 of the most popular stations in europe.

So several years ago I go sat hunting for it, found it easliy enough as I recall. Guess what it was encrypted and seemingly always has been. So thats a total lie by asda to say it's popular in europe when it's encrypted.

Depends on what statistics you use :)

Think about how many asda stores there are across europe.
Think about how many people go through the doors each day, everyone one of them listening to Asda FM (even if they don't choose to).
Basically, if more people shop in Asda than the listening audience of the most popular radio station, then Asda can claim their Asda FM is the most popular because it is listened to by more people.
Lies, damn lies, and statistics really.

It used to be broadcast in the clear on Astra, in fact it probably still is and has been for 10 years or more.

(and no I am not/never have been an avid listener ;) )

In which case it must be 1 of those radio channels that get scanned in with no name as I can assure you on 3 seperate sat receivers it's never came up with ASDA on any scan I've done on either astra sat, 28.2 east & 19 east.

I'm pretty sure it's no longer to be found at 28E or 19E:

http://www.lyngsat.com/28east.html
http://www.lyngsat.com/astra19.html

And only at 15W:

Or online!

ASDA FM Live was the UK's very first in-store radio station in 1992. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength, with a fully live service launched in November 2005. The station broadcasts 24/7 to an audience of over 13 million ASDA customers and colleagues each week, giving the station more listeners than any other commercial radio station in the UK!

Strength to strength?, certainly not at xmas. When from mid november they start broadcasting (on the night shift anyways) xmas numbers, about 20 of them on a repetative loop with just a few general numbers to space them out.

How can you work under those conditions when for 7 weeks solid you have to listen to the same xmas numbers about 14 times each a night lol.

But it's funny at there claim as 2 stores I used to work at had major problems in that the radio hardly ever worked properly, (just xmas time really). And I gather the same is true for a number of the larger stores also!.

It used to be on Astra 1C, on a sub-carrier of Sky Sports2. 1C has been moved to 5deg E but doesn't appear to be broadcasting anything so that's the end of that.

Hi New member here I work for Asda South Woodham Ferrers Essex and LISTEN to Asda FM A song that was aired up to two weeks ago I have tried to purchase without success as I dont know the female singer of Lifes A Battlefield its not Jordin Sparks or Pat Benaton
It played every 15mins so as it was playing I asked the nearest colleague WHO'S SINGING THIS SONG no one knew. Our entertainment desk cant help as they listen to their own music. Perhaps the DJ could help with this. It is a slow meaningful song the singer sounds a little like Carol Carpenter. YourTube didnt help. Maybe the title is not Lifes a Battlefield. Must get this as a single or on an album, dont care what I must get it.
Thanks for reading GillianMorley

Aimed at Graham M and Derek S
why do you think this thread needs destroying
I needed an answer to a question concerning Asda FM and thought this was the
correct place to air my request. Obviously the people who are registered to
the site do not want this kind of post. So sorry. Its left me not knowing what the site is for.Better not use Cable Forum again.
Thanks for reading it anyway
