Try this website:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/speedtest.html

It will tell you your approximate downstream speed in kilobits per second.

EDIT: For example, I get:

Tue, 24 May 2005 01:03:46 GMT
1st 128K took 344 ms = 381023 Bytes/sec = approx 3170 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 359 ms = 365103 Bytes/sec = approx 3038 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 360 ms = 364089 Bytes/sec = approx 3029 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 359 ms = 365103 Bytes/sec = approx 3038 kbits/sec

And :welcome: to CF, by the way!

3rd 128K took 381 ms = 344021 Bytes/sec = approx 2862 kbits/sec

Yep, that all looks fine - definately getting 3Mb downstream... I'm not so sure about an upstream tester. There are a few available but they're mainly based in the US, so they're not an accurate way of testing the throughput speed.

k, thanks for the help, apprechiate it! will have to use this more often... :D

If you are getting the 3M downstream then you will be getting the 300k upstream - unless you have managed to get a unique config file :)

if u could email me back <email address removed> this would be helpfull, thanks

Hi CyberNeT, :welcome: to Cable Forum.

You might want to edit your original post and remove your email address, posting your address in the open like that is the best way I can think of to increase the amount of SPAM you receive.

You'll find that if anybody is able to help they will post their replies in the thread, or send a message through the Personal Messaging system of the forum, so you don't need to provide your email address.

Glad to see that some of the guys have already offered assistance. NIce to have you aboard, hope you stick around.

Raist.

BTW, this site:

http://www.internetfrog.com/mypc/speedtest/

Measures your upload speed. Just go to the site and let the tests run, not sure how accurate they are but it should give you and indication. Don't stop the tests or do anything else until both the download and the upload test have completely stopped (there's a little blue status bar).

ive just used the speed test u provided and it seems that my downstream is bout right (got 2.90 Mb's) but i seems my upstream is slow (at only 150kbs) bit weird really, rather annoying...

http://www.adslguide.org/tools/speedtest.asp seems quite a good tester of upload and download (don't be put off by adsl in the url!)

keeps saying 150k, weird, its meant to be 300k aint it?

Like I said, that may not be wholly accurate.

It quotes mine as 128k and I'm supposed to be getting about 200.
