I got up this morning, turn my computer on, and I had to key in my PID and password, it seems NTL somehow lost my computer id and stuff, does it happen often?

You might have had some local network resegmentation going on near you, it happens now and again but not very often. If it was network upgrades/ repairs then it's not that they lost your details it's more to do with you being on a slightly different area of the network now. Has your IP changed too?

To be honest, I don't even know what the old IP address was!

I wouldn't worry too much, I've only had to reprovision a handful of times in the time I've been on NTL BB and we're talking years lol

Just noticed the pavement about 100 yards down the road been dug up, might be NTL doing some cable work, could be the reason for what happened.

Doubt it - those details are stored centrally in a database, not under the pavement! The only things that usually require a reprov is a change of MAC address on the connecting device or a change of service level.
