more likely it is an ntl thing , possibly a power level problem that causes the modem to drop and then you get a new i.p. address , mind you i stand to be corrected :disturbd: :D :D :D

Hi

But does that sound like a valid ip address ?
is there a site you can check your ip address ?

Hi caroline

What operating system? Any Firewall (just wondering id DHCP renew requests are being blocked)? If you are running XP, open a command window and type

ipconfig /all

at the bottom of the resulting output should be a 'lease obtained' and 'lease expires' date and time. What do they say? How often does the IP change?

P.S. it is generally advised not to post your full ip address on a public forum. Suggest you edit it out of your post. [Edit] ..and yes, it is a valid NTL (Luton) ip address,

standard 48 hour lease period :) , can you edit your first post to remove the end of your i.p. as asked by JohnHorb :)

What SHOULD happen is that your PC should send a request to renew the lease on the IP address half-way through the lease period (i.e. sometime tomorrow) or next time you connect, if later. At that time you should get a further two day lease on the same address. Not sure why that isn't happening, though. Any firewall?

One test might be to open a command window and type

ipconfig /renew

this should manually renew the lease, which should be shown if you then do another

ipconfig /all

10.37.15

1) this isn't a public IP
2) this isn't an IP at all, in fact

Not sure why it was posted, but it isn't going to cause someone to get hacked.

caroline, you have got a firewall, haven't you? If not, that's one issue that needs looking at, if you have, I hope you've got your UBR and DHCP IPs allowed through, or there may be problems come lease expiry time.

It actually appears to be the time.

Hi All
well my computer has been ok all day now so maybe its settled down, and i have ran kaspersky since ive had my computer and never had no problems with ip addresses so i take it it must have a firewall built in.

If you haven;t got a firewall, suggest ZoneAlarm from here http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp?lid=staticcomp_za

That would explain a great deal. There was me about to look up 10.37.x.x on our database, too. Still, you can't win em all.
