Are the sync and rdy light on????

um, can you clarify? downstream needs request and acknowldge packets, you can't have one wthout the other!

If you meant windows doesnt report any upstream packets, this isn't a problem. also, :welcome: to the site

hi thanks.

All LED's are on except U/S and why would windows not report and packets going up? I'm looking now and it says D/L 608,509 and U/S 0.0.

i have no idea why i'm afraid, it just doesn't

if you can browse the web, it's all working fine :D

Ok and do u know what the u/s is for the 3mbit line?

not sure if it's possible, and it's not really 'broken' in any sense really...

300kbit i think. EDIT: yup, 300kbit it is...

300kbit UPLOAD speed????

bmxbandit
21-04-2005, 22:27
yeah. you'll probably max out download at about 360KB/s, upload about 35KB/s, all being well (remember everything is specced in bits! :))

d3v please tell us can you surf

d3v
21-04-2005, 22:39
hi thanks for info.... damm bytes and bits lol... and i though there were 1024 bits per byte so wouldent that make it 37.02KB/s rather than 30KB/s or have I just lost the plot?

you COULD just tell us if you can surf properly with your connection, if you can then all is well!

bmxbandit

8 bits in a byte. unless you're into really old comms stuff, in which case it could be as low as 5...but that's just silly.

D/L: 3mbips = 3072kbips = 384 KB/s
U/L 300kbips = 37.5KB/s

when i said 35KB/s i was just rounding down a bit, you probably wont get quite as high as the full speed anyway. not noticably different though! hope this helps :)

Is it me or......if he couldn't surf......... he wouldn't be able to tell us he couldn't surf....or sumfin:dozey: cos if he couldn't get here to tell us he couldn't sssss

I'll get me coat shall I :D

ty for the info on bits n' bytes but i still havent grasped t yet :(

i thought u were being sarcastic when u asked if i could surf becuase if i couldent, i wouldent be here but now i know you were asking if i could surf properly.... yes i can surf perfectly fine and download perfectly fine too.

Hey guys I am hoping any of you can work this thing out for me... i'm totally stuck onit.

The MaxClientRate variable can be changed by editing your UnrealTournament.ini file in your UnrealTournament\System directory. MaxClientRate is in the [IpDrv.TcpNetDriver] section.

When you have your MaxPlayers or MaxClientRate set too high for your upstream bandwidth, you typically see everyone's ping get progressively higher, above 1000 and beyond. This occurs because your server is generating too much outgoing data for your internet connection to handle, and the data begins to back up.
> What should the MaxClientRate be set to, to allow good ping on an ADSL Server? And how many players would work well too?

It really depends on your ADSL provider. You need to work out what your maximum upstream bandwidth is in Bytes per second. One way to do this would be to ICQ a large file to a friend who is on DSL or cable, and look at what the transfer rate is, or if you know what it is in bits per second, divide by 8. ie 256kbps upstream bandwidth is around 32000 bytes per second.

Once you have that number, work out what maxclientrate you want to give everyone. 2600 is the bare minimum and it'll give modem-like netplay for everyone. 5000 is fine for modem and ISDN users but the play won't be quite as good as it could be for ADSL or cable users. 20000 is the largest you should ever go. The number of players you can support is the upstream bandwidth in bytes per second divided by the MaxClientRate you chose. So with 32000 bytes per second of available bandwidth, you could support:

32000 / 2600 = 12 players at modem quality play
32000 / 5000 = 6 players at ISDN quality play
32000 / 10000 = 3 players at better-than-ISDN quality play
32000 / 20000 = 1 player at LAN quality play.

I'd go for the 6 players at 5000 if all I had as 256kbps upstream bandwidth, because 5000 doesn't play too bad at all, and it's a good compromise.

my U/S is 300kbit a second..... could one of you work out what i should set my clientrate to please.... wayy to complicated for my limited understanding :(

heh, it confused me first time i saw t too. but everything worked, so i didn't question it... if anyone has an explanaton as to why this happens i'd be (mildly) interested though!

bandit have a go at that thing i quoted please.

bmxbandit
21-04-2005, 23:24
from that, i guess 5000 would be a decent setting. im not sure if it means 6 players on your nternal network, or 6 players total. kinda depends if theres a central server i guess, i've never player UT online so i don't really know.

d3v
21-04-2005, 23:27
oh sory i forgot... i play with 3 players on the server.

try 10000 then, see if pings are acceptable...

have u worked it out or is that a guess??

bmxbandit
21-04-2005, 23:45
its what the thing you quoted recommends for a 256k D/S. you've got 300k, so you could possibly crank it up a little higher, but i would imagine 10000 would be a good value to start with. try it and see! :)

d3v
21-04-2005, 23:51
ok i am gonna try it now, thanks.

EDIT: I've just tried it and its loads better for the clients.... i'm getting 4 quality stars for my server and before I only used to be able to get 2 ;)

Thanks alot:tu:

Just checking that you could browse on that connection because you COULD be using dialup. Dont like to assume stuff like that :)
