Well have no personal reccomendations but to get your Van I would goto an auction and get something like an ex postal fleet Van (yes it will be red but you could always respray ;) ), these go for bargain prices and have been well looked after (except for the tyres oddly, I saw so many flats and damaged tyres at the last one it was unbelievable).

I have heard that the ford (fiesta & Escort) & Vauxhall (Corsa & astra)Vans are well worth looking into though.

Has anyone got any knowledge about auctions? Im looking at spending about £1000 max would prefer to hit the £800 I know a lot of these ex fleet vehicles are quite new am I likly to get anything going to blackbushe for that kinda cash, or should i keep an eye out in the laybys... :)!

And remember, you have to pay VAT on a van, even if it is second hand. Why not look for a cheap small estate car.

Damn just to big.... tehe

Errr, what if I buy it second hand from bob the painter and decorator?

I run an IT company and will be regualrly shifting computer equipment about, an estate car, is perhaps a little to small and also, whilst I would never leave anything of value on board, having a security cage is a must, I know one of the twots around here will try and brake into it...

(bob is fictional and does not exsist, any likness to a bob who is a painter and decorator is purly coincidental)

I'd recommend the ford escort then, just like the car up front, sturdy security cage, and easier for getting into the back to put stuff near the cabin, as it has more height.

Just a thought before you commit yourself to purchase anything, check out the insurance premiums. If this is a second vehicle (you have a car already) you may start from scratch on no claims discounts. That could seriously make a mess of your budgets.

At the price range you indicate, it's quite likely that any van you are after is going to have been quite well used, and abused. It'll come down more to condition I suspect than any particular model or make.

My Dad buys a new citroen van (the small diesel version) every few years, he swears by them (or at them, I don't recall). He's a landscape gardener so they get a fair beating but as far as I know they just go on and on and are REALLY cheap.
