This (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_yorkshire/4367699.stm) couple did!
A West Yorkshire couple ignored years of marriage tradition on their wedding day by opting for a three-tier pork pie instead of a cake.
I hope they didn't have marzipan on it too!

Mmmm, but you couldn't have nice white pillars on that - it would collapse under the weight! No icing or marzipan though - not sure I'd like that - at least a pork pie would support a good few tiers! :D

That sounds awful. Orginal idea indeed, but I'd have to have something sweet and chocolatey for my wedding. Its got to be chocolatey.

What, you don't like marzipan, the food of the gods!

Chimaera
22-03-2005, 20:43
Yes - I'd have to have 3 tiers I think - the bottom (largest one) chocolate, the middle one the traditional fruit and marzipan, and the top one a plain madeira cake. That should cover all eventualities! :D

I spent a couple of weeks working in a pork pie factory. You don't want to know........ but I'll tell you anyway ;) When the meat comes out of the store it's in big poly bags stamped with the word 'ECONOMY' and it's white with a hint of pink (like a Dulux colour!). They then add a shed load of pepper. Bake and then inject the jelly. The production line was staffed by numb nuts like me who couldn't give a toss although, to be fair to me, I never spat in the food or picked up bits of pastry off the floor and chucked them back on the line.

Mind you, the sausages looked worse.

To counter that, veggies, are you aware that many beers are not strictly speaking vegetarian. Guinness, Fosters and many others use, gulp, fish bladders as finings. Nothing shows on the tin as the finings aren't an ingredient but used in the production process.
