i would have to agree, for future proofing its the best way to go, sky should start releasing HDTV broadcasts in the next two years.

Thats what I thought it always was. That equates to (at 8 hours a day) 3,750 days or 10.3 years.

30000 hours at 12 hours a day is just shy of 7 years , i reckon i would be after something else in that time , and anyway , cant you just get the plasma recharged ????????? :)

I suppose it depends on how long you watch the tv for a day, whether you're a good person and you switch the tv off when it's not in use etc etc. If you really are silly enough to spend thousands on a tv, you may as well go LCD - they'll last longer....

one of my mates got an LCD TV from Curry's - an unsatisfactory number of dud pixels on it plus extremely poor picture quality when other light sources are in the room. I also dont know where you'll get an LCD at 42inches.

the life span of a plasma is indeed 30,000 hours. the bigger risk with plasma is damage - if you knock it and break the gas seal it's fubar.
