The tests for all tiers of service, be it 150K/600K/1mb.. and so forth. Yes, There defiently is a problem there, Make sure you havnt got any other programs running, such as Kazza, that are using your upload. Even if you arent downloading, but are uploading it will have a BIG significance on your speed.

Ok - Your webpages load fine, and everythings fine whilst playing online games, It's just your Download Speeds thats a problem?

What operating system are you running? Have you made any significant changes in the past few days?

try these speed tests

use the cable T1 T3 option

http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

and

http://www.vantage.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/v2/v2.htm

and post results from both sites/program

Are you using a proxy server to get such good speeds, what is it and can one use any proxy server or does it have to be local.
I live in Romford, Essex and would like to know the best known server that I can change to. Sometimes I appear to have good speeds (using BB test sites) but suffer slow browsing.

lol I think if Dupre pressed CTRL & F5, then ran the test again he might have got a more realistic result.:)

You can use any proxy server, but usually local is the first one to try.

I usually go through a Nottingham proxy, but have had good results from inktomi1-bro.server.ntl.com on 8080 & thats relatively local to you (if you don't mind going sarf of the river:D)

just did that test here and got this:

thursday 11th sept.
1 128k took 7953ms = 16481 bytes/sec aprox 137kbps.
2 took 8031ms = 16321 b/s aprox 136 kbps
3 took 7594ms = 17260 b/s aprox 144 kbps
4 took 7781ms = 16845 b/s aprox 140 kbps

that with proxy.

and from sourse.
1 7938ms = 16512 b/s aprox 137
2 7984ms = 16417 b/s aprox 137
3 7578ms = 17296 b/s aprox 144
4 7578ms = 17296 b/s aprox 144

then did the usual TOAST test and the results were.

with proxy 135 kbps through out.
without 138 kbps through out.

Is that good or bad?
as I keep having to re submit on the forums every now and then as it loses server, which is frustrating.
forgot to say I am on 150k bb.

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2007/09/1.200px do you still get drop-outs when you have a proxy set, albone? Have you tried a few different ones?

have tried with proxy and without no difference really the one I have was given to me by ts a while ago when it played me up. but neither seem to make that much difference. and reading other threads it would appear we are all in the same boat! as a rule it has been fine slower without proxy. but now well I am at a loss. Maybe when the hype of virus oriantated traffic has died down we may get back to normality! I hope.
though is there any other proxy around this area that would be any different??

hi albone

I've been using this one

inktomi1-bro.server.ntl.com

recently & it hasn't been too bad. Of course if everyone jumps on it, it will slow down, but it's worth a try to see if your drop-outs improve?

yes the text can be typed/pasted in the address box & 8080 into the port box.

Or if you prefer the IP is 80.1.224.4 for the address & 8080 again for the port.
