I got hold of a beta version, been playing it for the last few hours. :p
I'm no stranger to the game because I've finished it on the XBox too but the PC version is a lot better with the controls and graphics etc.
Be warned though, you will need very good graphics and sound cards to make the most of it. :)

Heard from a few people that have played this now and they said its one hungry fecker. Were talking about Geforce 4 Ti's here

Richard M

Yeah, it needs a card which supports Pixelshaders otherwise it might look crap/weird.

Well here's some example's,

omg i have a p4 3gig 800fsb ddr400 branded twinmos @ 1gig gffx 256 meg version and it was no where near enough to run halo was a shock ... all i can say is i hope the release is bad and not my pc .. lol any 1 getting the same or is this just me?

yeah i got a GF 5600 256 MB with asus A7n8X MOBO with 512 (333 fsb) and AMD 2600 (333 FSB)
i had to turn off all the extra details and run it at 800x600

game is pretty good besides that part.

It ran perfectly well on an Athlon XP 2800+ with a Radeon 9700 pro with everything whacked up to full ... I've just played it and didn't really find any appeal in it (apart from the warthog which is a nightmare to control with a mouse). Oh well, end of the month is Halflife 2 time.

given that XBox is a 700MHz cpu, 64Mb RAM shared between graphics & system, what are the odds that Halo PC has been designed to require so much hardware that people will simply buy an X-Box to play it?

Defiant
09-09-2003, 15:12
Well like I said I wouldn't bother getting it myself after finishing it on the xbox (two days)

That buggy is one hard git to drive though. You would need a manual just to drive that on the pc

Richard M

I only have an Athlon 1800+, Ti4200 with 256MB of SDRAM @ 133...
I've been playing it fine at 1024x768.

No doubt my EAX soundcard helps though to take some pressure off the CPU with all those detailed effects.

That'd be a slim manual

1. Press "W" for forward, "S" for back
2. Steer with Mouse

The end ...

No, no fire, he said "drive" not being a passenger or manning the minigun.

It is still the one thing that keeps a lot of people away from Games Machine.

I have a PS/2 but i only bought it for 2 games MGS2 & Time Crisis. No Gamepad out there can match the speed and accuracy of a KBD & Mouse for FPS games. I would hate to think what would happen to the poor x-box guys if you matched a good PC Halo player with a Good X-Box player on the net.

Hate to think of PC only players having to wait a year and a half just to play the game. :D

Looks like a GF FX issue to me
the only issues I have read about seem to involve a GF FX.
Cant wait to play it myself bu I think I will wait for the final release ;)

If you've downloaded the ISO file then you also need something to mount it, try downloading Daemon Tools and mounting the ISO as a virtual drive, it works for me .. though, to be honest I'm bored of the game now

I've downloaded the file no problem, and it has installed fine, so I don't think I need to mount it...

If you downloaded an ISO file then you can uncompress it with Winrar and install it, no problem, but, it'll then wonder where the f*ck the CD is, which is why you SHOULDN'T install it straight from the ISO and you should in fact either BURN it to a CD or mount the ISO as a virtual CD.

I wouldn't worry though, you're not missing much other than another generic FPS with sub par visuals. Great sound effects .. but I'm not going to bother purchasing it until I've checked out a multiplayer demo.

I recently bought Halo for the PC but seem to be having problems with it. There is some slow down in places but i believe the xbox version also suffered with this aswell??. The graphics card in my machine is an nvidia FX5600 128MB, I've also got 512k RAM installed in my machine and its a pentium 4, 2.0GHz.

Any suggestions as to game/card settings ? Tried altering some but to no avail.

Cheers.

I run it in max settings but if there is a shadows option (simple/complex) try lowering that a bit.

I have the demo now and am disappointed in the extremely low-res/quality textures - the trees look crap!

Looks like you are having problems like quite a lot of people in halo :(, go over to the rage 3d forum, i realise this is for ATI cards but it may be of some help anyway, some of them have a 3ghz processor,1gig of ram and a radeon 9800pro and it still runs like crap :(, very bad port from the x-box, code was not properly transfered apparently !!, hopefully a patch will sort out the bad framerates soon :)
