Hey all,

It appears that NTL are flooding the P2P networks with dodgy MP3 files. These files play for about 15-25 seconds and then screech unbearably.

They have been added to the Kazaa Lite Block List :rolleyes: as they have been picked up doing this repeatedly. It seems strange as to why they would waste bandwidth doing this??

The IP ranges that have been added to the block list are as follows;

NTL Network Management Centre part2:213.106.97.0-213.106.111.255
NTL Network Management Centre part3:81.97.0.0-81.97.191.255
NTL Network Management Centre part4 Waltham Park AREA this time:81.109.96.0-81.109.111.255
NTL Network Management Centre:81.100.80.0-81.100.95.255

No i didn't personally see it happen as downloading MP3's is illegal ;) but the programmers of Kazaa Lite have picked up on them doing it as This (http://kazaalite.host.sk/dl/BannedIpRanges.txt) shows every blocked IP address and/or network.

makes for intresting reading!

"NTL Network Management Centre" is just the name registered to those IP address ranges. They are more than likely customers' PCs. For example, the first IP range you posted is customers in Stoke. I imagine KaZaA Lite's admins have just been a little over-zealous - especially seeing the large ranges that are in those lists.

I think you're confusing the *use* of the IPs with the *registration* of the IPs - those addresses are assigned to the NMC*, who then put them on the DHCP servers (or other equipment as necessary). There's a whole IP address cottage industry.

*OK, I know it's not the NMC that assigns them now, it's Data Planning, but NMC do the work, ok?
